Best way to deliver virtual products?

I have a question that is probably simplistic for some of you, but new for me. I am a highly accomplished offline biz dev expert, and am now (for the first time) entering the realm of teaching my 30 years of skills to others.

We've recorded a bunch of modules (teleseminar and larger webinar files). I know I can deliver them as a physical product, and am setting up with a company to do so.

But I would also like to deliver the files electronically. Problem is...I don't know the best way to do so. Especially since some of the webinar files are quite large and would not send very easily in email (right now I use ZipSend, which is not automated).

So my question for you experts is: When someone purchases your information product, how do you automatically send the electronic files to them...especially the large ones?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Warm regards,

Dan Page

If the files are large probably the best way to do it would be setup a download area on your site. Once the payout has been made you'd send the customer an email with their download link and username & password to login and download.

i use opencart or wp-ecommerce plugins for wordpress to setup such functions.

@msu: u might need to tell the TS how to connect the user id + pass that match the download link? or u setup it manually without database?

I would suggest sending them a download link where they can download the file. But there is the risk that if the link is shared, then some free-loaders might be able to download it as well..

You can use email to send download link,
when you'll be confirmed they downloaded that.
Then you have to change the download link.
Hope it'll be helpful for you.

You can host the files in a cloud storage like amazon S3. And then, you can send the download links to your customers via email or in a protected download page.

NEVER! If any seller would send me a huge file like that through email - I'd ask for a refund immediately

You either host it on your site or on "media storage" websites (as mentioned above).
And send ONLY a link to the download page via email...

Be aware, you should use some kind of solution (script) that creates expiring unique links for every buyer.

the answer is simple you'll need to provide a database, the database will be check per user id + pass, and may be filtering their IP too.

Strongly agree with Istvan here. A link to a download page is deff the way to go. You'll need some way to remove those links after the download has happened. Perhaps prompt the customer to enter a password when they are trying to download, then have a script that matches that password to which download link was given out. And remove that download link's functionality maybe a day or two after the user logs in. That's a kind of sloppy way to go about doing it, but it's a start

    Yeah...

A lot of "sales" script provide secure expiring download (DL) links: e.g. $7script, RAP and a few WP plugins... to mention self-hosted methods. The DLGuard script works with a lot of platforms.

There are also 3rd-party hosted solutions, like e-junkie - easy and affordable solution; Digiresults, JVZoo can be used, too... although they have file-size limits.

That's the point: we do NOT SEND files. We just give a link (URL) to the download page!

I suggest to host your digital products in your own website rather than use a third-party service, this would save you from additional monthly fees. Then purchase a script or hire a developer to protect the digital downloads from unauthorized access. It's easy to implement this via Paypal, the flow would be:
          1. Buyer clicks a button on your website
          2. Buyer pays via Paypal
          3. An email is sent to the buyer containing his username and an auto-generated password which he can use to log-in to the "Download Area" in your website
          4. Buyer logs-in to the "Download Area" and downloads the product
