Ah yeah, i forgot about dreamweaver, i guess you kinda need to know CMS for joomla and wp, but i dont think it's really that necessary, its easily done with really basic knowlage of CMS. But if your still stuck at that, dreamweaver is a very good option.

Wordpress, especially the MU version. With all the plugins for WP and the community support its very easy to set up and get started.
Some plugins that I usually recommend to my clients: all-in-one-seo-pack contact-form-7 google-sitemap-generator exclude-pages google-analyticator addthis wordpress-video-plugin meta-tag-manager wp-table-reloaded yet-another-related-posts-plugin the list could go on... all the plugins makes it very easy to add functionality step by step. |

FrontPage was replaced by Microsoft as their html editor about 3 years ago by Expression Web which has recently been released in Version 3.
I have used all the versions and the latest has some particular features of interest. Microsoft Expression Web Version 3 OK, you can qualify to buy the Upgrade version (latest Version 3 only) for $79 directly from Microsoft if you Own any Microsoft Office product or a prior version of Expression Web. You can download a 60-Day Trial Version from Microsoft.com. Look for free trials. Microsoft® Expression® With Version 3 you can: Create Professional Graphics for Your Site Powerful vector drawing and editing tools in the included copy of Expression Design let you explore new artistic possibilities and create compelling graphic designs and illustrations. Integrate vector artwork and bitmap images in the same document to create hybrid compositions that you can import in part or in whole into Expression Web. Use Expression Design’s sophisticated slicing capabilities to create web-ready graphics. Import Photoshop files Expression Web can import Photoshop files directly with complete control over transparency, the layers imported and the converted image format (PNG, GIF, and JPEG). Expression Web remembers your layer and format settings so that you can quickly reimport to reflect any changes to the Photoshop original. Version 3 also comes with Expression Encoder 3 with which you can: Screen Capture Capture all activity on your PC screen with the screen recorder feature including your narration from webcam and microphone, then edit and publish in ultra-high quality using all the features of Expression Encoder. There is a lot of training, much of it video online for using Expression Web. Learn Expression Web Since most everyone can qualify for upgrade at $79 or less, it seems like something you might want to take a look at - get free trial version and buy it if you like it. john |

When it comes to building a website(s), and which software application is the best, it boils down to answering these questions FIRST!
(a). Are you currently a programmer, computer geek, coder, developer, analyst or IT person? ![]() (b). Do you have the patience to learn HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript? ![]() (c). Are you willing to learn HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript? ![]() (d). Do you want to design a completely unique website(s)? ![]() (e). Do you have the funds to buy design software? ![]() (f). Are you pressed for time? ![]() (g). Are you an absolutely clueless when it comes to techie stuff? ![]() Answers… (a). If you answer “YES” to this question, almost any of the platforms will be suitable for you, (coding by hand with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP, using Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, Dreamweaver or any of the other software applications designed with professionals in mind. What is so easy to people in this category is like a hair pulling, head scratching ordeal to noobies and non techies. What’s worse are the people in this category who can’t grasp why this stuff is so hard for others. People in this category usually despise and trash applications designed for noobies such XSitePro, SiteBuildIt, Homestead, etc.) (b). If you don’t have the patience to learn how to code, your best option(s) is to use one of the many WYSIWYG applications. There are tons of them out there each with their own quirks, limitations, learning curves and pros and cons. What’s good for the goose, may not be good for the gander. I always tell people, don’t make a decision based on someone’s testimony. Make the decision based on carefully evaluating your skill sets or lack thereof versus what the application in question is going to demand! (c). You could be the most patient person in the world but if you are not willing to learn how to code, once again, your best option is a WYSIWYG editor. Oftentimes, people in this category will ignore the fact that coding IS NOT their cup of tea and they will give it a shot anyway??? Long story short, they end up going berserk scratching their heads stressing how to figure what people in category “(a)” consider a breeze. (d). If you want your website(s) to be completely unique, your options are: (1) Learn coding. Or, (2) pay a coder! Or, (3). Use one of the more advanced WYSIWYG editors such as Dreamweaver, etc. Having shared that, you should know this; there are certain WYSIWYG applications that leave an easily distinguishable Internet footprint. Meaning all of the sites designed by that application LOoK THE SAME. For example, SiteBuildIt; you can usually spot a SiteBuildIt website right out the gate; with the exception of the color scheme and header, SiteBuildIt websites essentially all look the same. (e). When searching for a website building solution, for some people funds may be THE determining factor! If you have no funds at the time, one of the FREE solutions is your only choice. However, you need to be aware of this fact; FREE solutions come with severe limitations - no matter how EASY they are! If you believe their fuzzy sales letters that the FREE applications deliver the same flexibility as coding by hand or the same functionality as Dreamweaver or XSitePro2, then you’ll also believe me when I tell you that I own Cuba and I’m putting it up for sale! ![]() One other thing about FREE applications. Some individuals in this thread mentioned NVU. Just so you know, NVU is a discontinued WYSIWYG HTML editor.Meaning if you get stuck, you get no support! And if you are a noobie, you will most likely get stuck because NVU has bugs. Why was it discontinued? Because the majority of the people who downloaded NVU saw that “DONATE” button on the original NVU website and busted out and started ROFL! Consequently, the developers of NVU couldn’t afford to develop it any longer. Just remember, when you are using FREE stuff, the providers are SUBJECT to leave you high and dry WITHOUT NOTICE! That includes the FREE hosting and FREE websites! (f). If you are pressed for time, the solutions with lengthy learning curves are not for you! If you fit in the “(a)” category you may be short on time but because of your background, you’ll be able to grasp Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver and WordPress rather quickly. For people in the short on time category and short of funds, use one of the free solutions but upgrade to one of the PAID solutions AS SOON AS Possible. (g). If you are absolutely clueless when it comes to techie stuff here are three suggestions: [1]. XSitePro2 [2]. WordPress [3]. SiteBuildIt I put XSitePro2 at the top of the list only because of the category, (i.e., clueless when it comes to techie stuff). With XsitePro2, a non-techie can build professional looking SEO Optimized websites with an extremely short learning curve! What’s so great about XSitePro is that it is robustly intuitive; for the most part, if you never read the manual but just referred to it here and there, you could still build dynamic websites. And most importantly, you can make changes on the fly and never have to worry about coding EVER! I put WordPress at number two because if you don’t know at least the HTML and CSS basics, you could end up in a boat load of trouble if you want to do any Theme customization or make any under the hood functionality changes. And these are things certain WP Themes are going to require to get them the way you want them. In terms of Google loving Blogs or WordPress more than HTML websites, that’s a major misnomer. Any seasoned IMer or genuine SEO Pro can get ANY site indexed at will! Hahaha!!! ![]() One final note for you XSitePro and XSitePro2 users, you can actually add a WordPress Blog to your XSitePro built website with a few clicks and the two be integrated as if they are one. Even better, it doesn’t cost one penny! I included SiteBuildIt only because you get a built system designed to take noobies by the hands and show them the way as if they were sweet little kids. The drawback is the cost factor; it’s $299 per year for ONE friggin website! If you want to build a second website with SiteBuildIt, you pay another friggin $299 per year for a total of $600.00 friggin dollars. But again, if you KNOW Nothing and have the cash and are short on time, this may be a solution to get you going then upgrading to a better system later on down the road. The question for this thread was, “What is the easiest website building tool you know?” The answer is, IMO; it depends on the above!!!

Thank you so much Chief Crew, your detailed post shed a lot of lights for a newbie when it comes to programming and all. I have been hesitating between Xsitepro and WP but after reading your post, I know that Xsitepro is the better option, at least for someone technically clueless when it comes to programming.
Having said that, is Xsitepro also the easiest tool to build landing/capture pages? Thanks a bunch again! |

IMO, Its best to learn HTML,CSS and PHP. These programming languages will be a great plus point in the future(for the young guns!!). If you're older than 40, and you haven't actually used any programming language in your days at college, like Pascal,Java,C,C++ or even FORTRAN, then I think you'd be better off just learning the basics of CMS and start with Wordpress. You might consider learning HTML though, because its quite easy.Just memrize or print a page full of all the HTML tags and you're good to go.
You might also consider wysiwig software like XsitePro,etc, but let me warn you, you might not get the desired look. For anybody who wants to learn HTML,CSS,PHP,Javascript,etc........just go to w3schools.com!! Its the best tutorial site! |

I concur Wordpress is a firm option although it's probably not a bad idea to get handy with photoshop and dreamweaver as well, just in case you need a nice looking static site at some point.

The thing about wordpress...at least for me...is it easy to add content etc, nut can be a bear if you want to switch colors, add a different header/footer etc.
That being said I do want to check out the affiliate theme. Kevin |

Hey There Harrier, I use Nvu most of the time. Weither I am posting to my hostmonster account or others. On the downside I don't like Nvu to upload files. So I use filezilla.
Good luck. Allen |

I suggest you use WP for your Blog and use XSite Pro for your main site, landing pages, capture / squeeze pages etc.
Make sure you Build a List and have a compelling offer to provide your readers the moment they sign up for your newsletter, RSS feed etc. Here's a decent list of basic Tools and Resources that might help you decide where to place your time & effort. |
