Please Advise: How to recover deleted Wordpress Category in 3.3.2

Okay, so stupidly I deleted a (post) category (not the default) only because I misspelled the slug (let say is it was called "category" and slug was "category"), so I created a new category and now the slug is appended with -2, - that is, the new category is "category" and the slug is "category-2"; I'll be damned if I can find the trashed category to recover via the WP interface: i even tried phpmyadmin but the list of taxonomies there is the same as WP gui.

How can I recover or fix this mess?

    When you delete a category, it is deleted completely. You seem to have created a duplicate without deleting it. Go to 'Categories' menu, which is part of the 'Posts' menu and delete one of the two categories. Now edit the other one to reflect the right slug.

      Unfortunately, I've looked and looked and searched with eyes and with search box and the category is deleted - even phpmyadmin does not show it. Yet, somehow it persists and I can't create a new category and slug without getting the -2 or -3 at the end really frustrating.

      Anyone know of a fix?

    Perhaps create a similar category and redirect the old slug to the new one? Not completely sure why it's a huge deal - did it delete the associated posts?
