You say you are a web designer?

One thing I will say is this
and its odd but true

I have seen so many "website developers"
whose personal website SUCKS

I mean dont you think you should start showcasing your skills with your own website?
if your own website which is trying to get you business is not A WOW FACTOR

then you must either not be that talented
or not be that bright to think of showcasing your skills in the best place you can

I mean would you hire a homebuilder who lived in a crappy house?

Not sure if this is the best place for the above post, but I would agree

Mine sucks, yet I'm one of the most recommended designers here on WarriorForum - which is EXACTLY why mine sucks...

You see... 2 years ago, I started putting my new portfolio site together - and I took on some client work.

[put my own site on the back burner]

What happened next was quite interesting...

I took on more client work...

    And more...

    And more...

    And more...

    Why?

Because, messing around with my own site doesn't put money in my pocket... doing things that people pay me for does.

    The lesson?

When you have your priorities in order, clients love you, and would do anything to see you succeed because you look after them and the people they refer.

    My question is this:

Would you actually ask a builder to show you HIS house? Or would you ask his clients to show you THEIRS?

You're wandering aimlessly down the road when you come to a small town. You suddenly realize that you need a haircut.

There are only two barbers in town, and you must get your hair cut now.

One barber has a sloppy haircut.

One barber has a nice haircut.

Which barber do you go to?

    All the best,
    Michael

Many of my websites were designed from 5 to 10 years ago, so they are very dated and neglected. I'm just too busy making money with them to worry about it.

Making assumptions about someone's talent or intelligence based on one subjective factor is an unwise rush to judgment. It's akin to making assumptions about intelligence or writing ability based on one forum post.

Same goes for trying to guess how much money people make by looking at their website. Jim "J.F." Straw's websites are as plain as they come, some would call them downright ugly, but he makes more money than most people on this forum.

The bottom line: Your opinion isn't necessarily someone else's reality.

Yes, a web designers website should be up to par, but realistically if you are a busy web designer, there's no time to do it. I have VAs which I get to do things to our site.
