Hello evryone!

I'm galde in joining the Warrior community.

Well let me talk about myself real quick, I'm 25, Marketing and IT graduate, I've been involved in developing for clients eCommerce websites for over 2 years. All those websites were built using Magento eCommerce platform. So I've acquired an extensive experience(design and programming).

I was wondering wether it would be a good idea to develope high quality Amazone affiliate websites using Magento to promote them or I'm better using the wordpress method?

Magento has powerfull SEO features and is multistores enabled. So I can run all my stores under the same roof.

I've found a commercial script that will allow me to import Amazone affiliate data feed, but what about let's say, I want to import only specific products, can Amazon let me import product just from a certain category?

I'm tired of making stunning ecommerce websites for people, now it's the time to build my own empire, slowly but surely.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Lyes

Never used it myself. I use Wordpress and I imagine a lot of people here have not used it.

Amazon has a webservices API that gives you a lot to work with and you can pull down product data based on category.

Amazon Product Advertising API - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It uses SOAP or REST, so you can code php to make the calls and process the data returns into magneto.

The only thing to be careful of with using magneto is that you let people know your an affiliate, otherwise Amazon will ban if its in anyway misleading.

I use freshstorebuilder for this purpose. I think it's a better solution than Magneto and it's built specifically for Amazon.

You can bring amazon stores into magento. That was part of the new feature list built into the latest version (1.7). Magento also has a free extension that helps with all that.

An even better idea (talking seo wise too) is to dev out the dolphin script and build up (niche wise) its social benefits. Draw in Magento, that then pulls in Amazon. Niching it all out.

Even better than that...just to go a step further...go to alibaba and dev out your own product line that fits into your entire niche and theme.

Hey debra...I don't see the amazon affiliate on the feature list for 1.7*

Would you be kind to provide some links, or even point to the "free extension" you are referring to? Cant find it anywhere.

      Thank you

I never said that there was an extension for free. You can get the Dolphin script and community edition Magento free but your not going to find the extension to do that for free.

It's obvious that your looking for an easy extension to do it for you. Your not going to find those for free.

        Not Free but cheap:
Amazon Associates Magento Extension | SoftCommerce.com.ua

All the bells and whistles but still not free:
Amazon Products Manager - Magento Connect

Opps! My Bad. I did say that. I just re-read what I said. I'm sorry.

The free version was actually was for a later version...like 1.4 or 1.2. I kept it in my extension folder. Since then the extension has been developed much better than the original and is compatible up to the latest version of magento. And I quess those developers weren't letting the working version loose as free anymore. But, it's really cheap (1st reference).

Looks like if you want to do something like this free, you'll have to learn to use API.

Its good if we can add an amazon extension in Magento shopping cart for affiliate marketing. Magento latest version has this extension for making a website more useful.

To work on Magento, you must be aware of this platform.... Possibly know how the modules work, how to setup sections that allow you to integrate Amazon Affiliate center working on it....

More better options are wordpress & a dynamic affiliate site

Magento is way heavy. I've been dealing with it for a year. Its ultra feature rich which is way I went that way with my online store. Some people claim it can light weight, they are full of sh!t... Your going to pay a fortune on hosting (VPS style) for that thing if you want decent performance. It's so heavy...

Look for a much better solution - I love joomla, but wordpress is also great.
Seriously - stay far, far away from Magento.

I totally agree. I personally have spent time modding Zen Cart for my affiliate store. It can be used on shared hosting and you don't have to worry about server resources being used up....which could cause you to lose shared hosting account if you have one.

I prefer wordpress over magento. Wordpress has some of the best SEO and Amazon pluggins. You can find some of those pluggin's here on warrior forum.

Have you developed your affiliate website yet? If so, what script or platform did you end up using?

Yes, we've done it but only on the very high end and using specialist solutions that sit on top of Magento. Currently on a site which is to compete against ShopStyle.com directly, uploading 1mil+ products - one month end to end go-live.

The problem is the return on investment, using large platforms is great for seo but you have performance and scaling issues, you cannot just throw extra hardware at it with ~7% commissions. The answer is no, you cannot do it with Magento, except we have but the reason is a very long story involving VCs, consultancies, and the top end retailers - not something we will get in to here. Almost all comparison sites are custom build except with WP, but you need a lot of them due to ranking issues among other things.
