Well we are looking to make an E-Commerce site that sells T-Shirts. More than likely we will have a lot of products. We are VERY familiar with WordPress platforms, but not so much with E-Commerce.

We need to be able to add pages that are NOT product pages (About us, Contact, general information type pages, Blog?, etc) which is something we KNOW we can do with WP, is this possible with sites like Megento and Prestrashop?

we are also looking for things like Affiliate system (WP has a plugin that is compatible with most ecommerce plugins), newsletter abilities, and a lot of choices for gateways...

so the main question is.... what is our best solution? WP based plugins (woocommerce, Shopp, WP e-commerce, etc.) or a Stand alone e-commerce script (Pestrashop, Magento)???

Thanks

I currently don't recommend E-commerce templates, as well as if I can remember correctly there is barley any professional good looking e-commerce templates around the net. The best way, in my solution, is to hire a website designer and create you a custom e-commerce site. In a long run it will benefit you greatly and if the designs of the site looks good, you just scored yourself credibility thus score more customers.

thanks for the response, but we are most likely going to use one of these solutions. Getting one made from scratch is probably out of the question. I see what you mean that we can make it do what we want exactly, but I am sure we can get that with one of these options at a fraction of the cost

I've done some research on this myself because I had a customer that was in a similar situation, lots of products but didn't have the budget to have a custom site built. You may want to check out BigCommerce.com from what I remember they also integrated well with facebook. Plus they have a 15 day trial.

Let me know how this works out for you

  • I think it is best to use a E commerce CMS(I recommend Magento) will be more flexible than WP for this purpose.
