hi guys,

im just starting to learn xhmtl/css and i've been searching the web for free and open source tools to use, while i practice and apply what im learning about xhtml/css.

what i've found so far is, notepad++, and i've decided to keep it and use it as my html editor.

but im just so curious about what pro web designer and coders use, in creating their web design or web site.

i've found some reviews about commercial tools and open source tools, but what i want is a direct answers from people who actually use the tool.

Hi, I just came here to post the obligatory "I use vi" so that I can establish L33t cred here on the forum.

    That's all.

Professional tools are: Adobe Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression Web
Both are user friendly, advanced and easy to use kinds of software!!

Dreamweaver is nice and makes working on multiple web sites very easy, the built 'wizards' however can lead to sloppy code being created during rollbacks when it does not remove everything it puts in! The older and heavly pirated DW8 is also slightly unstable on Win7 and has difficulty remembering FTP passwords/usernames. Fireworks (graphics editor) that typically comes bundled with DW8 still works like a charm for most needs.

However these days I have to keep things legal and for the most part use either basic notepad or BlueFish depending on what I'm doing. On those occasions when I need special artwork for me it has to be GIMP, don't get me wrong I like photoshop but GIMP is several hundred pounds cheaper.

I'm not a "pro" web designer or coder YET, but I use notepad ++ to create and edit HTML, CSS, and other coding languages. I use GIMP for photo editing and logo design because, like Lovelogic mentioned, it's open source. It does has a bit of a learning curve though.
