Setting WP menu navigation buttons so they don't link to a page?

I'm having a moment here. I can't figure out how to create a WordPress menu item that you can hover over to see sub-navigation, but isn't clickable so it doesn't link to an actual page on the site, or anywhere else. I'm using iThemes' Architect theme if it matters.

I'm not really sure what you mean...

Are you saying you want a menu item that isn't a link itself, but ONLY drops down sub-items which are click-able links, or you want the entire menu (parent and child items) non-click-able?

  I've done it before in older versions of WP and with other themes. But can't see where/how to do that now.

You know how to add a regular menu, right?

Now look for custom link, input htttp://a.com for the URL, input what you want for the name.

Add it.

After that, click on the little arrow, you'll see http://a.com ... delete it, save your menu.

  I assume you mean to just put a "#" in the link field?
  
  If so, that makes the cursor change to a hand, insinuating the button is linked, which might confuse some visitors. I'd like to hear more about how that helps SEO.

WordPress is the menu item that you can over to see the navigation. navigation are different between word press. these are also using investigative coding these are important for the word press.
