i think i have a problem, although im not sure. i am using joomla 1.5 on a new project.

to check which of the pages have been indexed so far i entered site:www.prosimulator.net into google. it brought back a handful of pages but there was one called http://www.prosimulator.net/componen...frontpage.html

when i click on this link it goes onto my homepage, (which is is an article called front and has been posted to appear on the front page). so, it seems this is duplicate content of my homepage. i dont want 2 hyperlinks with duplicate content, as google may penalise me for it. any idea on if or how i can edit / remove, so that my homepage content is only found at http://www.prosimulator.net/ and not the above url too?

many thanks

Personally, Google has not had any issues with any of my Joomla sites - and most have a few similar type 'duplicate content' url's. Google is pretty savvy about stuff like domain.com, domain.com/home.html, etc...

There are many extensions that address this..are you using any SEO or Canonical URL extensions? There is always the manual solution of 301 redirects.

Yes I don't think this is a problem. There are always several links pointing to or leading to a page on your site but the page is unique and no other actual page have the same content.

check your site for canonicalisation problems

/index.html brings up a page not found error

After checking the index.html be sure to check the config of the site in your Joomla control panel. Verify the settings and see if there is an odd file. I think I also had a .httacces type or issue as well - but that is a vague memory.

Are you on latest version of Joomla - another check.

In your robots.txt file, you should also add

    Disallow: /component/
