Hello Fellow Warriors,

I am creating a new web directory and would greatly appreciate your honest opinions of what the site looks like and the overall feel and design. The left-hand sidebar is not complete, and I also have to create and upload a logo so please keep that in mind when sharing your opinions.

It needs a header explaining what the site is about, what it does, what you offer. Also, I would not be serving the links from there because of the domain name. It says "Google! Look! Please discredit these links right away. Thanks!" (grin) Be sure they are coming from other blogs in your network. Look into SEO hosting and blog networks.

Complete the website then comeback, there isn't much to judge other than to say that it doesn't even look like its finished to give a reasonable critique

I'd recommend finishing the site a bit more and then asking again, I can't really tell what you're trying to achieve with your design.

Quick question for Ericbryant and Nicole7575, I did not know Google penalized you because of your domain name? It's a website directory, so will Google still penalize me?

I think you should finish the site and fill it with contents. Your top navigation bar have the same links except for "contact us". Improve the layout of your site.

I think the colors are pretty good. I like the graphics. It looks like a template I've seen somewhere before. It's a really great site and I'm telling from heart. Great job, well done.

I had to do some tweaking on the site. It wasn't displaying correctly on some screen resolutions. If you get a chance check out the site and let me know how it looks and what your screen resolution is.

Its a directory that does not stand out from the crowd. The layout is a little messy and the width overlaps the screen.

Hi,

I think the page looks pretty good.
maybe enlarge or get more focus to the welcome pane so users will know
more details about your site.
don't forget a nice logo at the head and maybe an about page.
overall it's a nice job in my opinion.

The site looks nice..may be you can check the header section. The logo looks too big may be you can work on that.. beside the logo the space is blank .. place something over there.. rest looks good .. i guess you are using phplinkbid script to build your site. Nice work mate. All the best.

I really dont like the banner button at the top of the website. Plus the layout seems a little chaotic. I think you should try to space things out a little more.

Dude, you can't really be finished with this site! Simply installing WordPress on you domain name would clear up a lot of issues with the layout of this site.

Billy, I am a bit confused. Don't think this type of reply is necessary and according to Forum Rules. You asked for opinions / advice but it does not seem any advice is taking to heart.

In any case, will give you my personal feelings about your site.

I agree totally with James (King) – "Hi James, James this side!". You can't be serious in saying you are finished. If I visit your site I will not stay for longer than a few seconds. You need to entice your visitors to stay, meaning it should look like you are proud about your site and has put a lot of effort in.

I assume you have some programming knowledge (which I don't have a great deal of – the reason I use Wordpress) and did the design yourself? If the case – it definitely needs to be narrower a bit to cater for most screen resolutions.

Also agree with other warriors – is a bit dull and needs some colour. You can improve a lot with the header.

Your site Meta description: "Get backlinks to increase your search engine page ranking by listing your links in our general web directory. For a one time payment of $5, you get two links, one normal link and one deep link, to help increase your search engine page ranking." Your site's Google page rank is 0. I will not make use of your service.

Don't know about other, but one of the first things I look at is the date a site last had some attention – been updated. Your copyright at the bottom indicates 2007. Was this the last time you did some updating? Also – it tells me the site is in existence - say for 5 years? That tells me not a lot of effort went into getting it ranked – telling me it seems you are not really serious about your site, and maybe your request in this thread?

I also counted and it seems you got 7 links (one a year), which should tell you something – something is not right...

Not shooting you down, but if you are serious - take advice you asked for serious. Not sure what effort you have put into your design – not bad for starters, but a lot of room for improvement if you want it to get anywhere on the Web.

It looks like you kind of took all of the elements you wanted and just spit them onto the design randomly. It doesn't really have any order, and my eyes aren't attracted to your selling point. The whole point of the site is for:
a) Me to build a backlink
b) You to earn money (I'm assuming)

Point A isn't clear to me, so you can't achieve Point B.

The width is also over 100% of the total width - it requires me to scroll. I don't want to scroll horizontally.

Also, keep in mind that it won't be successful because of Google's recent crackdown on blackhat SEO strategies

I don't think it's terrible - I definitely agree with most of the constructive feedback people have given before me, though, particularly when it comes to the width of the layout - horizontal scrolling is a big no-no!

Take a step back, collate all of the feedback you've been given so far and don't take it too personally. You've made a good start, but you asked for some constructive feedback and I think you've been given a lot of good advice that you can use to improve your site.

I can't really offer much new advice as I would just be repeating what's been said already, but definitely attend to the width issue first and foremost, and do try and build up your PageRank a bit, as that's really important to anyone who's submitting their site to a directory.
