WEB DESIGN

Hello!

We recently launched a consumer web service called Living Junction (www.livingjunction.com).

It would be great to hear your opinion about the landing page and how it conveys the concept (do you get what the service is about, do you want to check it out, etc.).

You can also give a review the concept itself and/or user experience inside the service - any feedback is greatly appreciated!

yes the loading time is borderline terrible
it took my computer 30 seconds to even load the background for the site

what did you put on that site?I would seriously consider some speed testing and optimization and I would consider completely dumping that larger green background area on top of the site
that took over ONE MINUTE To load

who is going to wait for that?

Over all sight design is really good and site is user friendly but you have to check load time.

As others have mentioned, your page load speed is really bad (although the site looks great and loads quickly!). Total site size comes in at 1.4mb which is MASSIVE for a site.

- you aren't minifying your JS/CSS properly. site.consumer.js (http://livingjunction.com/assets/js/...te.consumer.js) is massive - 104kb of JS for what?? That needs to be minified aggressively.
- you need to save your JPGs with a far more aggressive compression technique. Consider a bit of blur and playing around in the 20%-50% quality range. This file: http://livingjunction.com/images/hom...magazines2.jpg weighs in at 315kb!!
- consider combining all of your JS into one. It appears you're using Yii (at a guess) which makes this a bit tricky due to Yii's caching mechanism, but it is worth the work. The same goes for your CSS.
- if you really want to tweak things, I would serve static content either through a CDN or through a reverse proxy (so that you have, for example, nginx serving the CSS/JS/even HTML, and you have apache serving the dynamic PHP content). Very simple but effective. I don't know why most people are complaining about the website speed. It seems okay to me. It's a world known fact that if the website loads under 5 seconds... everything is okay everything over this time is a bad loading.

It is very NEAT. I liked the way you have stuck with the colour combination on every page. Many people forget that.
Some suggestions-
1) Frame the images on the homepage like in the explore section.
2) Remove the registration on the home page. It looks odd on the top of the page.
3) Add some simple designs at the sides.
Overall I like it.
