Backlinks to a sub domain question

I have a site I wish to have in several languages.

I have access to cheap human translators

Lets use a English Primary site also in Japanese or a Jap variation of it.

would I be better off to have www . mydomain & www .jp .mydomain

OR

www .mydomain /jp/thepage

I was wondering about Back links? I I pointed a link to www . mydomian would it count to www. jp. mydomain ?

Please note that mydomian is a fake domain

    First, let's deal with what's wrong in your post:
    www.subdomain.example. com <-- this is WRONG!
    The correct syntax is WITHOUT www for subdomains: subdomain.example.com

    Next: subdomains, generally, are considered separate sites by search engines, while subfolder are regarded as the same site.
    Based on this, you can decide how do you want your site to be seen: as one or more sites.

    p.s. for example everybody should use "example.com"
