Handing Over Your Website Requirements

Hi all,

I am wanting 3 websites designed, all pretty simple and in the same niche, in just plain HTML and CSS (no CMS). The most complicated aspect will be the HTML contact form linking to Google Docs!

I am wanting to keep the costs down as much as possible and am wondering what the best way of handing the project spec to the website designer will help in doing this?

What I mean is - if I provide the page layout, premade logo, optimized images and all the copy etc before handing it over will this keep costs down?

If so, how should I provide this?

In word documents (or PDF files) showing exactly how I want it with all the final copy etc included and notes on the side showing what headlines I want H1 etc and what I want the contact form to do etc???

I know a little HTML & CSS myself so should I start the site myself and hand it over with the copy etc already on the pages with it just needing tidied up? Or do designers prefer to start from scratch?

Any advice really appreciated

Cheers

    Hello,

Have you considered purchasing website templates? Many cost under $100 and include images, html, css and even javascript. What's great about them is that they are constructed by institutions or individuals that know a lot about website design which affords you an huge selection of quality sites. Should you elect to take this route, the website designer can concentrate on the fine details as opposed to designing a site from scratch.

You can hand over the "look" in pdf files (will be the same on any machine) together with the images.
The content should be in text files to be able to put it in html.

However, keep in mind: what you can do in certain word processors (document files) may look silly in HTML!

And no, giving annoying OCD details won't cut your expenses... if I was your web designer/developer, it would increase it: because I have to check at every step what kind of non-designer ideas you had in your specifications. Sorry, that's how it works.

Give detailed and concise instructions but do not want to tell him/her how to do it.

I used to say to my clients: tell me WHAT you want and I will tell you HOW we are going to do it. Just don't try to tell me how to do it because I am going to fire you
