New to website building and warriors fourm

Hello all I am new to the forum and to website building and I am seeking any advise that will help me be successful in my first venture. I am a master electrician and my website is part tutorial and basic electrical knowledge. I have put adsense on the site and a few electrical books from amazon. I have been at this for about 2 months (that is website building) and I think that I am going in the right direction. My website is the electricians hangout and I would love for you guys to take a look and tell me what I am doing right and what I am doing wrong. I hope that I am not breaking any rules, this is also the first forum that I have ever joined.

      First of all, welcome to the WF, Tyrone!

      In order to give you the best possible advice, it would help if we knew what your specific goals are for your site. For example, is it just a "hobby" venture where you're content with making a little side income, or do you hope to turn it into a popular "authority" site that generates a full-time income?

      Also, do you have any prior internet marketing knowledge? In other words, do you know anything about traffic generation, SEO, copywriting, list building, etc?

      The reason I ask is because there are 1001 ways to make money with websites, so it just depends on what your specific goals / knowledge / skills are, as to the best plan of attack.

        Hey Brandon my goals for this website is to first and foremost help people that need electrical advice or looking to enter the trade. I would love to make some money in the process. I have spent quite a bit of money in my dive into the website realm and I must say that I truly enjoy it. I have been doing a lot of studying on all the different aspects of web design including seo. I just purchased web ceo last week and I am still in the learning phase I guess I can say I have a pretty good idea what seo is all about but I most certainly can use all the help that I can get. The only skills that I have right now are some basic website building skills

    Hey Tyronne, welcome to WF.. I dont often to respond to reviews but the topic interests me. I initially trained as a sparky in my youth and the amount of info around at that time was crap and limited, not sure what its like these days but I like where you are headed.

    Could we possibly take a look at the site itself and give you some more targeted help

        I am embarrased to report I only scored 13 out of 20 in the first exam.. shame lol

        Love the site bro!!

        Here's a few things that jump out at me..

        * you are absolutely going to kill it with your videos, I would concentrate on learning more about how to drive traffic through youtube and how to rank your youtube videos on google. IF I was re-learning I could literally sit there all day and watch your videos end to end for hours... Later on you can look at ways to monetize those videos.. I would even love to see your electrical training section eventually being transferred into video tutorials as well

        * Interested to know if you have written the content for your site yourself, or if you are borrowing it from other sources.. the reason I ask is original content ranks, copied content doesn't and this is important when trying to drive organic traffic to your site.

        * lastly its obvious that you could do with some help in just tweaking the overall design of the site and I'd like to help - no charge - theres times during my day when I just need a break from my own schedule and it presents me with the chance to record some of my own videos if you're okay with that. Jump me on skype if you want to chat about it (webpeon)

        overall great site and you'll definitely be doing the industry a favor with what you are envisioning..

          Thanks webpeon the electrical training part is a test that was created by the department of energy so the course is certified. The exams were questions that I created from the training course. So yes that one section electrical training is copiedand the rest is original content. I will look forward to meeting you and also learning from you, thanks for the positive feedback it was a good to here from someone with experience that I am going in the right direction!

          You're doing pretty damn awesome from what I can see. One piece of advice on overall strategy: keep blogging, providing advice videos etc and the audience will come. Don't try to force the audience into a discussion before they're comfortable just being passive viewers.

          Tyrone, you appear to have a lot of good content already on the site. If that is original content, then that will be a major plus for SEO purposes. If you're after search engine traffic, then start building quality backlinks to all of that content, and you should be ranking for all kinds of keywords before too long.

          There are many ways to get good backlinks (and ultimately traffic) to your site. As webpeon suggested, I would definitely make video marketing one of my priorities (ie YouTube, etc). Especially considering all of the content you already have on the site. All of that could easily be re-purposed into videos.

          And IF the articles on your site are original, I would start submitting them to the better article directories like EzineArticles, Go Articles, Buzzle, etc. Article directories aren't very good for direct backlinks anymore, BUT.... the better your articles are, the more they will be syndicated (ie blogs and other websites in your niche will pick them up and repost them, and you can get a lot of backlinks and traffic from that).

          If that sounds like a lot of work, it IS. But you can always pay others to do it, if you think it's a good investment to do so. Check out the 'Warriors for hire' section of the forum. Fiverr.com can also be a good resource. Just be careful if you decide to pay for any backlinks... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! (not to mention that there is a lot of recent evidence that low-quality backlinks can actually hurt your search engine rankings now, so... proceed with caution when buying backlinks!)

          Other ways of getting traffic to your site is to pay for it (PPC, media buys, etc). Lots of options there, but if you go that route, just start small and test extensively to make sure something's working well before you start throwing any significant coin at it.

          Regarding monetizing the site... you will find that unless you start getting a ton of traffic to the site, you're not going to make much money with Adsense (or even Amazon, for that matter). In my opinion, it's far better to sell your own products (ie you could create nice ebook or video info-products about subjects in your niche), or promote 3rd party products from affiliate networks that offer high commissions (Clickbank, etc).

          That said... If I were you, once you start getting traffic to your site, I would focus on building a mailing list via email opt-in forms on your site. That way you have a valuable, ever-growing asset that you can continually market to (and of course, provide value to in the process).

          Also, when I think "Electricians Hangout", the first thing that comes to mind is a forum for electricians. I've personally never run a forum on any of my sites, but I know that there is most definitely good money to be made for owners of popular forums. So... that's something to consider.

          There is a wealth of info here at the WF, so if you ever want to learn more about a particular subject, just use the 'search' feature. The advice here can range from really good to really bad (depending on who is giving it, lol), so take whatever you read here with a grain of salt! That said, if you read enough posts about a particular topic, you will get a good idea about what works and what doesn't.

I am in similar industry of free alternative energy technologies, so I know a little about getting your web site indexed in organic search on Google. The key is having the most relevent domain name which utilizes best key words possible. As example, Do-It-Yourself-Electrician is what I would secure if I was you. Why, simple, DIY sites are hot as more and more people are focused on saving money. I have used DIY sites for years, and in a recession you will see more and more looking to save money and do it yourself.

      Once you have your domain, submit it to Google immediately. Ad a forum where people can ask questions, answer them and you will see more and more traffic and this will get your site to top of search engines more quickly when you have constantly changing information relevent to your industry. Next, do a YouTube video explaining some simple DIY fixes, people love YouTube and your site will get indexed even quicker using Youtube which Google owns and obviously, they favor their own sites.

      Next, and very important, open a blog which gets you indexed like lightening, the one I use is www.Business-Blaster.com which will get you on top of search engines in a couple weeks with one good article on how to fix electrical problems. Then you keep adding helpful tips to your blog and people will find your site and traffic will build, then, and only then will you be able to monetize your site with relevent PPC ads or affiliate programs. Ad Amazon first, it is by far the most productive affiliate site for most.
