Hi,

I am getting the following fault on one of my affiliate sites when searching for my indexed pages in Google, this is what the meta description shows:

A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt - learn more

Any idea how to quickly fix the fault or any fiverr gigs that can clear some simple faults like this up?

Thanks,
Colin.

I would say that for some reason, when Google crawled your website, they were unable to see/read the meta description.

Try using the Fetch As Google webmaster tool to see what Google is seeing. Doing this will also help get the site indexed faster.

In your browser bar, type: www.yoursite.com/robots.txt and if a robots.txt file is present it should display. If nothing shows up. you may have a virtual robots text file created if you disallowed robots when setting up the site.

If robots.txt exists, it should read:
    User-agent: *
    Disallow:
    User-agent: Googlebot
    Disallow:

which says all robots, disallow nothing.

If no file exists, create one in notepad containing above bold text , save as robots.txt, and upload by FTP to root directory hanging out alongside WP-Admin folders.

You should be able to get rapid search response on the site, but have had a 40 page site on line for a month, and its still only half indexed.

    Good luck!

The file was hidden from google by something I must have done when installing the site as this site was a new test with lots of new plugins and so on so i must of done somthing wrong.

Any how if you have a similar problem then head over to fiverr search for wordpress install and seo and you will get a gig where they will fix the issue plus a little more.

      Thanks.
