To Canadian Warriors: Have you heard of DROC.ca?
Hello fellow Canadian Warriors.
Sorry if this is not the appropriate place, but I have a rant about domain name renewals and I didn't know where else to put it.
Who has heard of the Domain Registry of Canada? If you're a domain owner from Canada, chances are you've gotten their letters in the mail. They kindly tell you that your domains are expiring soon (which they are), and suggest that you renew it with them instead of your current registrar.
I like to support Canadian businesses, but this is absolutely ridiculous! They charge $40 per year for .com's to renew your domain! Who in their right mind would choose $40 over $7.95???
Another question: How many people to you figure get freaked out when they get this in the mail and end up renewing the domain with DROC? I think it's a despicable practice and I don't like their tactics for acquiring.
I'm all for competition, but charging $40 for the same service you can get for $10 at MANY other places just does not sit right with me.
I'd like to hear others opinions on this.
