Random Post, but I got a web design local business, just my city to try and get some funds for bigger projects, nothing special but im looking for a theme for the actual web design site. Its only a small local site but wouldn't mind a nice free wordpress theme. Clean and light if you know any? Any ideas? Also any similar themes to what I described above or: Canada's Top SEO Company - Professional Internet Marketing and SEO Services or Effective SEO Services - UK SEO - iNetZeal

I have looked through the entire 700 on the wordpress themes page and didn't like any really...

I understand your dilemma Tom. Many of the decent looking free themes are not working with the latest version of WP. There are some high quality paid ones for a low cost though as an option from theme-junkie (one of my fav's), templatemonster and a few other good premium theme sites, but again they are paid for.

I did do a search on Google though for "free premium wordpress themes 2012" and found some nice ones on smashingapps and a whole list of other sites that offer some updated nice looking WP themes.

    Hope this helps you some.

I've resorted to building my own custom theme that I use for all of my clients. I think you're better off in the long run unless you go down the paid route. I ended up extending the default twentyeleven theme.

Would also be interested to see what others use!

I think that you should select a theme of your choice and customize it yourself. In WordPress, it provides this tool of customizing the appearance yourself. You can change header, background image or color and many more. There is one more option of using software to change theme. There are so many software that help you this for free. Hope this will help you.

Do you have coding skills? My suggestion is to develop this site in html first, then convert it to a wordpress theme.
I have done this, when I just can't get the right theme.

Tom, no offense but you will offer web design services. Create/Develop a custom wordpress company website great in design, simple but stunning/elegant/professional.

You just need a small knowledge in tweaking themes.

Well, a "small knowledge in tweaking" is NOT called web design services. It is called scamming the client... unless you make it clear: you are not a designer just a wannabe webmaster

Oh you've misinterpreted my reply. It is directly for him. He wanted a free theme for his own website which will really position his company as a bad web designer company because there's no actually great free themes. I've said this because the way he asks for reply is more likely he will just outsource his design. Instead of looking for free themes, why tweaking free themes to make it better and look better.

I think there are times when it's acceptable to use a theme for a client site. Like if their budget just doesn't allow them to purchase a fully custom design. You should always be open with them about that and explain that their budget is creating the limitation.

But that's just my two cents...I believe the type of site your looking for is called a "Portfolio" site, here's a few free ones:

Hey Tom, here are some free themes put out by theme companies which usually (not always) means that you can expect them to put out updates and maybe even a new feature or two.

If you don't see anything you like, let me know exactly what you're looking for and I'll see what I can do to find you a theme.
