For some time now,i have been searching for a reputable organization that is recognized and that can teach me web designing and give me a recognized certificate that can compare with ccna for instance. Then here on warrior forum, another newbie was asking for recommendation on the best place to learn web design, most warriors recommended w3schools.so i took the advice, went to w3schools site and have been learning, i even ordered their book and still waiting to get it, planing to write their online test.but today i stumbled on a site w3fools and what they wrote in their site about w3schools is not encouraging.so which is the best place to learn webdesign and get a recognized certificate?

If I may ask...what do you need the certificate for?

I think w3schools is the good site for learning HTML coding & i do refer for sometime. As a web developer i also work on HTML coding simultaneously with PHP language. w3schools gives the basic idea about how to use it? So, if you want to become a HTML programmer you should refer w3schools. This will definitely help you. Thanks

I learned from w3schools. I did read however that the certificate they give out means nothing to an employer. A Collage or University certificate will easily trump w3school. your best bet is it forget about the certificate and freelance (I am assuming you want it to get a job).

What's the certificate for? I am major in electronics graduate and I do well in web design industry. Here's my suggestion, if you are just starting to learn web designing, search on google for free html themes, play with it. learn css, apply what you have learned in w3schools. Do this the same if you are planning to do wordpress themes.

If you are afraid not getting any clients because you don't certificate, don't be. Your portfolio will speak for yourself. Post on craigslist and Bargain yourself with small fee or even free for your web design skill. Tell them you are just starting and you will be building portfolio. You will have your portfolio as well as references.

The 1 million dollars question is: - do you want certificate or knowledge?

The w3schools has everything you need to know.

I have worked for many years as a freelancer and nobody ever asked me about "certificates"... they came to me because they heard about my expertise from other happy clients. It is that simple.

If you're looking for an accredited place to get a certificate I would check out either:
The Art Institute Of Pittsburgh Online Division | Online Degrees In Photography, Art, and Design

    or:
Web Design and Development Careers | MDD | DeVry University

If you're just looking to learn this stuff I have to agree with everybody else and read up on W3 schools and just try it out.

Buy a domain and hosting and build your own site, you will learn so much more from the hands on, actually doing it training than you ever will from a classroom.
