Hi All,

Can anyone recommend an online software (free or paid) for designing Website Banners/Headers.

I know Photoshop is generally regarded as the best software for this but I haven't got the time to learn it or the money to purchase it!!

I have tried something similar called Aviary but couldn't get the hang of it.

Just need something that is pretty quick to learn and customize that can make Website Headers/Banners and also maybe Display Ads.

Thanks in advance for any advice

My favorite graphics software for banners and other types of web graphics is Coreldraw Just because it's so much less work to use. And BTW you can get Coreldraw cheap by getting last year's version For some reason Corel sells their older versions cheap whenever they come out with a new version. The copy I have I got for $35 from Fry's Electronics though that was some time ago I think you can still get good deals on it from ebay. Look on Youtube to see some examples of Coreldraw in operation. For things like arrows and banners and such stuff Corel is an ideal program.

BTW even though Coreldraw is a vector base program it will save or export it's files to .gif or .jpg , .whatever , PSD etc.

Personally, I feel Illustrator is much more useful for design work than Photoshop, but I supposed it depends a lot on the type of banner you are looking to create.

Yeah I'll use Photoshop to do things like making composites of multiple images for instance Look at the header on this site The Preppers Forum that header is made from several images blended together to get the finished header image On the other hand for a lot f web graphics like arrows and banners I'll use Coreldraw though illustrator would be similar.

Hey, as a designer I've been working with Photoshop over 3 years.
I highly recommend you to utilize Adobe Photoshop.
Adobe products are quite expensive but it really worth the price.
Having Photoshop as your designing software it will be a great advantage for you because the internet have tons of tutorials about Photoshop.
Lastly, Photoshop is very useful for graphic and website designing.

    Hope it helps.

Aleo Flash Banner Maker is a great tool. You can export your banners in either Flash (.swf) or Gif. If you are going to create a logo for your website, I'll recommend you the AAA Logo Maker.

There are various software available on the web where you can design your website banner. As per my view Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver are both well know designing software which will help create an attractive banner design. Adobe photoshop is much easy to learn and develops a unique banner design. Adobe photoshop has advanced features and techniques which will help to create a creative website banner design.

I just made this video demonstrating creating a banner using Coreldraw to do it with mostly just to show how simple an affair it actually is to do. Also BTW you can get Coreldraw really cheap on ebay if you find an earlier version. With Coreldraw it's not really important to get the latest greatest version. Another point of interest is that Corel comes with a very large clipart and photo library royalty free. Also something like 1100 fonts. Its a whole lot cheaper than Adobe anything.

    Check out the video here...

I don't think an online banner creator is really a good idea. Plus if you are serious about learning more photoshop, you don't necessarily need to buy it, you can buy like a month of use for $20 http://www.adobe.com/products/creati...scription.html .
And lets face it, the things you can do in photoshop I doubt an online software can match, and not to forget the visual quality of the projects you can create in photoshop.

I think getting a good banner is more about proficiency than what program you use. I may need a picture of someone altered to look up instead of straight ahead. This could probably be altered in a dozen programs, but you need someone who understands anatomy and perspective to do it right, so in a case like that I would probably hire someone.

this is where what tyou want to do starts to matter. Different programs are for different things. Programs like Corel And Illustrator are vector based applacations they are very good for drawing and they can do really cool stuff with text and shapes really fast and easy.. Photoshop is a raster based software and it can do things far beyond the capabilities of Corel or Illustrator but most things take longer in Photoshop even simple things. For instance blending an image of a wolf with the image of a little fat guy is something Photoshop can do very convincingly and corel or Illustrator aren't even in the race. However most web graphics like arrows seals, check marks text with effects etc, etc these things just take too long to do in Photoshop while they generally only take seconds or a couple of minutes in Corel or Illustrator. Here's a good example the header on this page The preppers Forum.com I could never have done this in Corel I wouldn't even have considered it. It is the layering and blending of several images

Photoshop is definitely king, but paint.net (getpaint.net) is kind of like a distant cousin. There are even one or two thing that I use paint.net for that I can't figure out in photoshop. Photoshop can be intimidating for someone who has never used it.

If you are looking for a fast and simple web page banner creator I highly recommend Xheader. It comes with 500 free professionally created backgrounds and a simple graphic designer thrown in. The designer is designed so that you can add your own text, shapes or clipped images on to the headers provided, but you can also start from scratch and create header of any size for Facebook time lines and all.

You can find it at xheader.com

You need to sign-up to get the free 500 header version or there is a free 50 header version that you can find on the download sites. Not to happy about trojan code & viruses on the download sites so I signed to get the 500 header version. There is also a 5,000 header version to that you can get for $49 on the XHeader site.

I use gimp (i.e. "photoshop for the poor guy" perhaps, but gets the job done, and that's what matters)

You can even try GIMP online here
(the graphics are actually done by GIMP, and expect about 10-20 second delay
for your image to be generated ... that is normal, as the script runs on their server)

that is NOT my service !!
I have learned about it a few days ago on the WForum,
      and found it pretty cool.

So I am suggesting it here as I believe it is relevant to the topic.
Free for you to use or not, of course.
      cheers,
      bryan

      PS. quoting OP:

      "Hi All,
Can anyone recommend an online software (free or paid) for designing Website Banners/Headers."

tell me Istvan Horvath, where is my suggestion NOT relevant?
OP is NOT asking for a software/script as you suggest,
but an "online software". Please read original OP again.

From my experience most of the free banner design programs available are junk. They will help you make a banner but it will probably look like its from the 90s. There are several quality softwares specifically for banner ad design. Here is a good list of them:
