Hi,
Can anyone tell me what would cause a site go go from using less than 120 megs of bandwidth to 5 gigs of bandwidth in one month? I am looking in the cpanel at my bandwidth usage and it if shows what the increse is due to I can't see it.
Thanks everyone!

I don't have any downloads and I have a few images on my site, but they are not large. Yes, I am using Google analytics, it shows I have more visitors this month, but how are they finding me? I have not promoted my site because I changed it to a WP blog and I am still working on it. I wish I could get these many visitors to my other blogs.

In GA, if you go to Traffic Sources Overview, and at the lower left of that pane click on "view full report," it will tell you all the sites that sent you traffic and how many visits each sent you. Just out of curiosity one time, I had a few visits from a forum I had never heard of, went to the forum and searched for my url there and found the exact post the traffic was coming from.

It didn't leave room for any mystery at all.

have you got awstats, usually just look in there and follow the link where the main hits have come from.. forum snooping and seeing what people are posting about your site is always fun!

    Hello dorim,
I know you need to review your web server logs and everything, but one helpful tip to consider is to block access to your website from countries you do not do business with. If you use Apache as your web server, you can easily edit the .htaccess file and enter IP address ranges for country blocks. I implemented this solution about a year ago and have seen a huge drop in automated attacks on the websites I control. There are other ideas such as using a web application firewall like mod_security, but simply restricting access to your ideal target market and blocking all others is an excellent starting point. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply, I have noticed that all the spam and hits are coming from one country and I do want to block that country. I don't know if my server is Apache, its a cpanel server and I do know I can access the .htaccess file so maybe this will work for me.
