Blog module - what features do I need?

Hi all, Can someone please shed some light on what features a good blog program should have?

We are using Dotnetnuke and before starting out looked at wordpress but because of it's lack of flexibility in design options outside of a blog, opted for DNN.

I'm wanting to know what features one would normally get with a good blog so that I get the right module.

    There was a thread going here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...tml#post631034, where even website designers were saying they are switching over to Wordpress because it is so flexible!

    I use Wordpress and I am slowly converting static sites over because of all the plugins and theme options available.

    I actually don't know anything about the other application you are referring to, but just wanted to give a heads up to Wordpress because it can be made to look and function like a website rather than a blog.

    If you want to look at some of my sites for examples, then PM and I will send you some URL's.

    Otherwise, I hope you find the info you are asking for in this thread

      I'd love some reference sites.

      We looked at wordpress but I've found there are subtle differences between "Internet marketing" and bricks and mortar business marketing done online.
      It appears wordpress is great out of the box and masses of IM are using it.
      Problem is delivering sites to customers which all look vagely the same can be a hard sell and there's just not the customisation.

      We want to incorporate blogs into some websites whilst still creating unique looking sites.

      I tried to convice my collegue into wordpress but she seems to think along with our developer at this time it lacks the versatility i.e. people are turning a blog site into a business website, when really it wasn't designed that way.

      Dotnetnuke has "plugins" to Africa leaving wordpress for dead.
      That said, out of the box it needs work and is not as clean as wordpress, so for most DNN out of the box isn't suitable unless you're doing your own code.

      I'm open to being convinced otherwise

    For what it's worth, I think Wordpress is extremely flexible. My clients include solo professionals and bricks and mortar and I'm installing Wordpress blogs and full sites all over the place.

    There are TONS of pre-existing themes to choose from, some of which look quite different from the 'typical' WP site. And it's not very hard to create a custom theme that looks however you like.

    What totally convinced me was when WP added the concept of 'pages' as well as posts a few years ago. Now, it's quite simple to put a whole site into WP.

    I think you and your colleagues might want to do more research on the themes available and the sites currently using WP, because what I see out there doesn't match your impressions at all. IMHO. :-)
