Need help with a form in Dreamweaver

I am trying to make a form in Dreamweaver MX 04 where clients can put in their name and email and some other information and when they hit submit it will send their information to me via email and redirect them to a thanks page, but for some reason I can't get it to work.

Any suggestions? I'm using the mailto action and the GET method with type of text/plain, but when i hit submit it brings up my email client with a blank email. I know that I'm doing this wrong since thats not what i want, but i'm not sure how to make it right. Could anyone give me a few pointers? thanks so much.

I take it you're trying to setup an html form. The action needs to be the path to the script that handles form mail on your server. On my server this is "/cgi-sys/formmail.pl" but this can vary. Check the documentation your host provides to find this. Use "Post" as the method.

Hi Jackie,

Dreamweaver can only do so much of the job for you on this one. What you need to do is use an online script that will accept your submitted form, and email its data to you.

1. Sign up for a free form to email service, such as Free Form to E-Mail. No PHP or CGI required. Feedback Forms..Contact Forms..Autoresponders..Easy to use remotely hosted script..Create or build Forms Online
2. Follow their documentation on how to set up your form (typically defining the action and method e.g. <form action="http://www.example.com" method="post">

There may be better form to email services out there, so do a quick search of these forums first.

if you want to handle your own forms you can get a free simple code to make it work here:
they also provide a sample form. just modify, upload all to your server and done
InsideFreelance.com I just uploaded. simple change the variables and done.
No need to put out any more money!
