Hi,

I am planning to launch a new website on fat loss tips. There is already a lot of competition in this field. Is there any suggestion on further narrowing the topic. Fat loss tips is a very broad topic. I shall be writing abt fat loss tips related to diet, exercise, and harnessing brain power.

I will be creating a website ands also start blogging.

Any advice ?

  • Santr123,

I would suggest checking out the competition to see how many different niches you can identify within this one topic. For example there tend to be blogs and websites targeted at specific genders for weight loss or on specific diets. You are on the right track by thinking of narrowing your focus and by starting a blog.

Here is some good info on the global weight loss market,

Global Weight Loss Market (2009 - 2014), Industry Report: MarketsandMarkets

    Hope that helps,

Use google keyword tool, it's free. It will help you with the ideas and your competitions as well. Fat Loss is a very huge market.

    • Use Market Samurai to hewn in and narrow your keywords and phrases that are where the opportunities will lie in your niche. Ignore this advice at your peril! Seriously, in that niche, dig, drill in to find a handful of opportunity targets with something like Market Samurai. Find the "gold nuggets" in your niche, and then build build build around those.

I am an Indian female who recently lost 30 lbs to achieve my goal weight. Could that be my niche?
I will keep looking how to find those "gold nuggets"

Market Samurai is a paid service right?

I am already written quite a few pages in MS Word. All I need is a good domain name and web host and I can start publishing my pages.

        thanks for help

I'm not an expert but I've done quite a few niche blogs like you're planning and I had a lot of success by starting off with more broad keywords like "weight loss plans" "losing weight help" "fat loss tips" etc..

Write a few articles for each of those keywords and give your posts some time to get indexed in google.. maybe spend a week or so building backlinks to those posts?

Make sure your using Google Analytics or something similar and you should be able to find some good "longtail keywords" to use for future articles. This is where I get a lot of my traffic from. Just start using different variations of those..

They might not bring you the most traffic, but they are a lot easier to get a high ranking and require less backlinking.

Also, check the traffic statistics in your cPanel there's a section that gives you keywords that people have typed in Google to find your articles.

Maybe check out some forums related to weight loss.. you'll find a lot of good questions to use for articles, some you might not find any other place.

Once you get going, you'd be able to break down your blog into categories as someone above said for different diets, exercise programs, male or female, even different age groups.

Just a few ideas... good luck!

Last week I was at small biz conference at Toronto. They were talking about a lady who created movies for obese people. She was recording and selling the training videos, the point is not just telling them what to do, it is doing the thing with them!

I think it may help you. Good luck!
