wheres my www??

WEB DESIGN

Hi, just a quick question...
The 'www' doesn't come up at the start of my site address on a couple of my sites. Even if I type it in, I haven't done anything different than previous sites I've put up, and haven't encountered this before....
Any clues? would it have to do with WP?

Pat, this is a question for your hosting provider's support line. If you're in the Linux world, the answer will probably involve .htaccess.

  Not often - most hosts are setup to not require it. But I know of a few sites that still need it.

go to ftp and add in .htaccess next code:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www_.example.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http_://example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

where example.com — you site
and delete "_" (i don't post links or image)

  Just make sure that you don't use both when you interlink sites.
  
  If you use the www for internal links you will have duplicate content.
  
  If you have a 301 redirect via htaccess you should be fine thou.

It's important to pick one or the other and set your .htaccess to convert the URL to your preference - then of course create all your backlinks that way.

Most web savvy people never type in the www. I personally prefer no www.
