Aweber Email Formatting?

Does anyone else (ever) have dramas formatting an Aweber html email?

Like ever? My emails always look different and I hate it. I feel like the only one. I give up every single time and end up using text. My problems range from font sizing to how big the indentation is, sometimes grey writing - sometimes black. There is a million things that continue to go wrong.

I am about to cancel Aweber because I'm just over it. I have 1000s of emails in there - does anyone know a better solution I could use? Mailchimp? GetResponse? I just want to write an email and click send without my emails looking ridiculous all the time. I also want to use html only so I can bold and have clickable hyper-links.

IMHO - I'm really not tech challenged. For some reason Aweber seems to work fine for everyone else. But not me - ever. My original thinking was "Don't ever change any settings in the email and they should at least all look the same"..

Pfft. They never do. Not only is the writing too small to read. Every email looks different in some way. Anyone else give up using html emails and just use text because of Aweber's new "BLOCK EDITOR"???

Yeah, it is a little complicated when you are new to it. I started using them in the past few months.

I still get aggravated with it and decided that I am just going to send regular text emails.

I will get the hang of it sooner than later but I am not sure yet.

I don't think that your sales will go up or down if you use HTML messages.

Yeah - I keep thinking the same thing. You know - I'll figure it out next time.

But next time comes and there is always new problems

I am going back to TEXT again for my new email campaign. But I really would love to be able to add formatting for easy to read copy. I don't like having the word "Aweber" in my email links.

I have trouble believing Aweber is doing a good job with this BLOCK editor. That can't be as user friendly as it gets. Anyone else leave Aweber for this reason - and find a easier to use html editor elsewhere (with good deliverability)?

Well while a weber does have its cons I like the benefits of it as well.

It has a lot of Email marketing templates, Blog RSS feeds, Email Analytics for better tracking of emails.

I can understand however if you decide to leave but personally I just love the convenience of this particular auto responder

        Kind regards

I always use the old broadcast editor at aweber and text messages, but in terms of having aweber in your email links, if you uncheck the box that says track clicks, it will just have the actual hyperlinks you put in your broadcast mail. They won't say aweber, but won't be tracked through their system, but you can always use your cpanel stats or a site like statcounter to track them.

New aweber accounts could not revert back to the old editor. I had the problem of the emails being "centralized" when viewed in gmail. I chatted with live support and they gave me a new template to correct the alignment problem.

I was having this challenge yesterday. The text wasn't being centered because they were working on the unsubscribe button.

It was pretty annoying. Alright fine it was really annoying.

I ended up picking up the phone to call them, which is when I found out what everyone was talking about in terms of their customer support.

Within 5 minutes the woman made a template for my email and all of my lists that allowed everything to be aligned to the left like it needed to be.

Their customer support does rock, and for that reason by itself ... Am definitely sticking with them

Definitely call 'em up if you have any problems, it worked well for me

I just use the old broadcast editor. I haven't seen any good tutorials on how to use the new one.

I recently left Aweber for GetResponse. One of the best parts has been the ease of use and time saved, including the email creator.

I don't have any major problems with Aweber, but IMO GetResponse is a more robust and user-friendly option.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Yeah GetResponse has 30 day trial. My question would be: Is it easy to transfer contacts from Aweber to GR? Even if I have many emails in many different lists?

Yup, takes less than 5 mins.

However, during the trial period your list size is limited to 250 subscribers.

Well there goes that idea. So no trial possible if I already have bigger lists?

Not to say you can't use it per se, just limited list hosting during the trial period.

They will actually do it for you and it's not hard to do. They were at the Warrior Forum meeting in Orlando and spoke to everyone. It seems like a great company.

Its really easy. Use Dreamweaver to create the emails & setup classes for Bold, Italic, Font Size, Underlined etc. Use the live view window so you can see what the html looks like. When your done, copy and paste the html into Aweber. I create a plain text version from that as well for those with clients which don't support html.

Its best to use their old editor, their new one sucks, you can click on "Previous Follow Up" or "Broadcast" Editor.

I'm reading this thinking "what are these people talking about Aweber is so simple to use". I seriously have no issues with formatting or how the emails look and find it straight forward to use. Strange.

Don, I agree. All my emails look like normal text. I was just using html so my links didn't look all long and non hyper-linked if you get me.

Yes it's not that hard I guess. I get it now and probably will not be moving away from them. They certainly have good customer service, no doubt. But I still believe Aweber could have a more straight forward design.

For starters, my first instinct was to just delete the "example text" and replace that with my text. But doing this will indent your email further than normal. ie. Your email will not look like the plain template, it will look different.

      So why have that option?

Secondly, pasting text from word (or even from notepad in an existing html email) can result in 1.5 spacing. I hate 1.5 spacing, especially when it happens randomly. I had to re-space some emails holding down shift all the time.... Many of my old emails still have random 1.5 spacing in there somewhere. I just stopped caring.

Also, almost every email I receive from others has the text at the exact same size. So there does seem to be an industry standard of font size 12. However, in Aweber the default is very small. Plus the size to achieve font 12 is actually size 13 in Aweber. Why not make it 12?

Just little things like this. Remember, I am only comparing this to what I thought it would be like. You know, write something and click send. Done.

If you know CSS, you can follow my method above and use Dreamweaver or any WSYWIG editor. Its so simple honestly. Set the CSS classes in the top of the html then that cascades down though your entire email. You can set line height, spacing, font size, font family, italic, bold & highlighted text etc so it doesnt matter what default settings Aweber uses, the CSS is embedded in the html and this is interpreted by the users email client.

I can't believe people DON'T have problems with Awebers Block Editor!!

I'm back to "trying" html emails again. Here is my spanking new problem....

The nice girl at Aweber said to use the "plain text editor" instead of just deleting the instructions and going from there. So I did that. I have also written my email directly into Aweber - carefully - so I wouldn't have this line height spacing problem (I hate 1.5 spacing).

Unfortunately, I still had 1.5 spacing - but after throwing my computer against the wall a few times it magically went away. Aweber says pasting from notepad will stop the spacing problem, but that doesn't work for me. I dare not past anything from anywhere. Even from notepad++.. So, I did everything correctly according to Aweber by choosing "plain" and writing into their BLOCK Editor.

So, why is my email a "3 day camel march" away from the edge of gmail?

Any ideas? I never receive emails like this? Even from folks using Aweber?

Take it easy bro, I think you need a little more patience
Why don't you ask someone for help. Maybe the aweber's support team?

Yeah true. I know man. I'm always so tired by the time it comes to emails... LoL! Maybe I should do them first thing in the morning.

Damn. Don't worry I get it now.

            Stupid "center aligned" template.

Hopefully I can stop hating Aweber now.

            I'd delete this but apparently I can't.

    Here's a different perspective...

Aside from marketers like us trying to seduce people into our sales funnels, what does the average person use email for?

Passing around dirty jokes and links to their friends while they're bored at work.

So, do they fret over html email formatting? I think not. Send your emails in the same way you would to communicate with a friend. You're more likely to resonate with your audience.

Personally my open rates are about 25-35% and I only use text.
