Hi guys,
I need to do a bunch of 301 redirects for a new clients site. I realise i have a few options here & was wondering if any one way was better than another. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using a simple wordpress plugin instead of doing them manually with the htaccess file?

Thanks guys

No difference. Also often wp plugins actualyl edit htaccess.

Depends on what you feel comfortable with.

If you are familiar with editing .htaccess, then do that. If you are more comfortable using a plugin, then use that.

They both achieve the same result, and as already mentioned, most of the redirect plugins will update .htaccess

Most of the redirect plugins manipulate WordPress's internal rewrite rules. Because of this, most of the WordPress core has to be loaded before the redirect takes place.

If you know how to do .htaccess redirects, you're far better off doing it that way, server resource-wise, as opposed to a WP plugin.

I find is easier to use a script that updatyes the htc for me.
However before I add any values with a plugin I'm always sure to back up my htcaccess cause even though third party plugins (especially for Wordpress) manipulate everything (database/files) they're still useful but use them at your own risk. Even a simple 301 or 302 redirect.
