hi,

I have many themes that I use, however I am looking for a theme that is capable of switching between 1, 2, or 3 columns based on the page settings.

Almost all the themes only permit a default for the whole blog, most will allow you to interchange to 1 column (which really means no side bars, just a blank page), but having a theme that will allow you to have a left and right side bar, then being able to alter this on a page by page basis, to be able to change the setting to go to a single left or right side bar is what I am looking for (or combinations of this).

I did find a theme that allowed this, goblog, however there is another problem with that theme that the seller cannot solve. Everything works except for one issue (not related to the pages), but the issue it has means I can only use it on feeder sites, not important blogs... They wont answer any support questions about that issue, and over the last month I have attempted to get in contact with someone about it but they wont reply for support, so I have given up... (Which makes me wonder why they are still selling the theme).

I am very particular with what I am looking for so a basic theme with no built in features to change settings will not be of much use either..

I brought the profits theme recently and its a reasonable theme with lots of choices, but it too does not have the ability to change settings on a page by page basis...

I cant keep buying themes hoping they do what I am looking for.. So I thought that maybe another warrior knows of one.. I actually don't need this for the most part, but I have one particular website that I want to convert to WP and this feature is almost a necessity..

Any input is appreciated...

If you are really talking about Pages (in WP terminology always capital P) as opposed to posts... then without having several Page templates you cannot solve this issue. In theory, you can have unlimited number of Page Templates (see the link above) in a theme. Starting from the existing default (page.php) you can edit it following the instructions and altering/modifying the HTML/CSS to have
    - no sidebar
    - sidebar left
    - sidebar right
    - sidebar both sides
    - whatever

With a basic understanding how WP themes and templates work + a firm CSS knowledge it is easily doable.
When you have all the Page templates in the theme - you can select for each new (or existing) Page which template to use: you should see that option on the right in the edit/create Page section.

thats my problem, I am just a hack, I can edit crap, but doing this from scratch is not my cup of tea. But I understand what you are saying so I will have a look over the themes I am using and see if I can copy and paste something together that will resolve this issue...

You might want to take a look at Weaver theme. According to them no css needed and you can customize right down to individual pages. They have a free version that you can download from WordPress themes to check it out and see if it will work for you or not.

Check out themehybrid.com. I haven't checked all themes, but most of them are having per page or per post layout change option. All layouts are supported, full width, 2 columns, 3 columns layouts.

    thanks wpcrew..

I had a look at the themes, but they are sort of not what I am looking for (design wize), but some of them do say page specific, and as they are free themes it will mean that the code on the pages are not governed with code that some of the purchased themes I have are.. I did a test yesterday and some of the code on some of my themes prevented the page from loading (after I did what Istavan mentioned).

So now I will do what Istavan said and use these theme pages to help me.. I will most likely get what I want eventually if I take my time.. And if all goes to shit (that is if I just cannot make it work), I will just have to change my approach..

    thaniks

    hi AZMD..

I think you hit it on the nail.. I just chucked the free theme up on one of my testing blogs.. At first I did not like it, but as I started to play with it I am amazed at the amount of options and choices it gives you... In about 5 minutes I almost had it looking the way I was wanting.. And I could select page specific, which is exactly what I need...

I still needed some more options, as i did not like the way it put up the side bars, but the pro version has them.. So looks like this is the winner.. It will save me lots of time trying to do my own.. and the price for the pro is perfectly within my budget..

    thanks.

One of the most customizable themes i have come across is Weaver II. They make it very easy to customize the CSS attributes of the theme and individual pages through their user control panel with fairly clear instructions and fields labelled for each attribute.

The theme is also free and they have a very good support forum with some very helpful peoples.

    hi braincandy, thanks,

AZMD mentioned the exact same theme... After a quick 10 minute play with the theme I purchased the pro version straight away (I wanted the extra options the pro gave)..

It is exactly what i have been looking for, the ability to customize to the extent that it allows is what I have been after, and as you said every field is labeled and very clear as to what it does...

    thanks
