Huge domain URL mistake, please help.

I let my domain name expire accidentally today (it is with godaddy). Luckily I noticed it straight away, paid the annual fee, and got it back. The trouble is my website still shows as parked:-

Welcome to: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com This Web page is parked for FREE, courtesy of GoDaddy.com.

My site is with Wordpress, hosted by Hostgator. Is there anything I need to do to reinstate my site, or am I just waiting for godaddy's system to catch up? I searched on Google for an answer but no luck.

    1. GO to your domain manager. Change your DNS to your hostgator dns hosting.
    2. Go to your Hostgator COntrol panel hosting. -> Add ons that domain.
    3. Install wordpress on the folder that domain was parked or added on.

    It takes about 24 hours for dns change.

      Hi,
      Actually if it's just the name severs he won't have to do the add on domains again unless he went and changed anything at hostgator (which it sounds like he did not).

      Once he points the DNS properly everything will still be there. He wont have to reinstall WP or rebuild his site, it will still be there.

      All the DNS's do is direct internet traffic to an address. They don't play any part in site function, hosting or remain/delete.

        I'm petrified now. You've all been very helpful, but there's conflicting information. I've no idea what a DNS is, let alone what to do with it, and ensure its done 'properly'. A friend sorted this out when I set the site up a year ago. There's nearly 500 pages of work on that site, I'm terrified I'm going to cock up and loose it. Can anyone help please?

          (First make sure you KNOW what your hostgator DNS is - look it up in the very fisrt email you got when signed up)

              That's great - but watch the video and learn how to repoint your DNS as you will need to know that at some point.

              When something goes wrong - stop, analyze and then do what's necessary to fix it. Panic doesn't work and it feels awful:p

    Go check whois and see who the name servers point to. If they point to Hostgator then you might just be waiting for systems updates or local server cache updates etc...

    If your name servers do NOT point to Hostgator (which is most likely the case) then point them to hostgator and wait until the systems update and you should be good to go.

    When it expired and you bought it again it was just like buying a new domain and so you will have to point the name severs again.

    Yeah, the name servers can take up to 24 hours to update, no biggie.

    Calm down and don't jump from one suggestion to the other. Not every advice is gold - some self-appointed experts are more clueless than you are

    1. When you buy a domain, the DNS (domain name servers) info always has to be updated to point to your host server.
    1a. Since you missed to renew it before expiring - you should do it as in the case of a new domain: see #1.
    2. Patience: Propagating the DNS data on the WWW can take up 24-72 hors.
    4. Hopefully, the content of your site (files and database) has been kept on your host's server.
