Wordpress Themes and PSD's

I'm looking at redesigning my Wordpress blog. I have someone who will create a PSD template for me and another guy who will install the theme for me and make sure it is running correctly with all my current content.

I think this will work out cheaper than hiring someone to design the new theme and install it.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Is there anything i should be wary of?

Thanks.

There are thousands and thousands of blog templates that have already been created and are for sale. They have been tested in multiple browsers and can be tweaked all you want to give a unique appearance.

While there is nothing wrong with having a blog design "pieced" together by several people, I have a preference for buying a pre-made theme that is already working and tested that I can see in advance and "demo" rather than paying for a totally custom theme which may or may not be what you ultimately want. And it's a lot faster to implement.

Here are four places that sell WP blog themes of high quality:

    Woo Themes
    Theme Forest
    Elegant Themes
    Studio Press

    Good luck,

Like suggested earlier, there are plenty of websites that offer ready-made wordpress themes. However, it is possible to hire a designer and have him design a PSD, then create a wordpress theme from that PSD to install it. I know one such good designer whom we have worked with earlier and has been good in such designing work : akdesigner.com

The only thing to keep in mind is that with wordpress updates, your custom themes may also need updates, so make sure to keep in touch with your designer from that point of view.

Someone else posted that they were going to have this done, and before it all ended, they paid over 1K for it all. There are so many great commercial themes available, why go to that expense. In addition, every time Wordpress is updated, you may need to go back to the programmer and have them tweak it. Costly.

Yes.. this is true. For standard business, I suggest using premium theme. Easy to get update. But if you are large corporation, maybe you should opt for custom design since this can make your site stands out.

Sorry but 95% of the issues after upgrading Wordpress arises due to the plugins installed and not the theme

and I'm sure that statistic is based on a real research study of course. :p
Woo themes ... basically all the premium themes make regular updates, often coinciding with WP version updates. Must be pure coincidence.

Theme updates can be for any purpose, if the theme developers have used the Wordpress Codex, then the theme can never go wrong. Some of the functions do get deprecated, but that doesn't mean the entire site will stop working, the rest of the functions will remain the same. Woothemes also releases plugins of its own, and most of these themes come with paid or free plugins (Example Woothemes + Woocommerce). If they create a new plugin specifically to be used with the theme, then of course that theme has to be updated so that the theme functions the way it is supposed to. I have been making Wordpress themes since 5 years now. I never use a plugin, all the functions I use are from Wordpress Codex, never has even one customer come to me and complained that their site is down due to a Wordpress Upgrade...

Agree with schwarzes. If you hire the right people to work on your theme then you'll not need additional updates.
