Changes to How Images are Imported to WordPress (Take 2)

Sorry everyone, the first thread I created appears to be corrupt. I have no idea how to delete is.

Here's what I posted earlier:

Since the latest update to WP (on my hosting) I've noticed massive changes to how you import images into WP.

To put it bluntly, it's a nightmare.

Yesterday I spent nearly half an hour trying to get one image into a new post. Today, I've tried to do the same thing with another new post, and darned if I can make it work.

Anyone else having these issues? I'm just about pulling my hair out doing what used to take literally seconds.

Yes the layout has been changed, but it's pretty simple even now to upload images and insert them in the post.

Obviously you're having no issues then. I still haven't managed to get an image into that second post. Any suggestions?

You haven't described what 'issues' you're having...it's kind of hard to help if you don't describe what you're experiencing.

I wanted to punch the screen with their old upload system without using a plugin.

When you have a post that you wanted to insert 100 images into it, it would take an hour. Now, it's super quick and the system loads your images relatively faster.

I wouldn't call the changes massive. It's definitely much better, quicker and smoother.

What specific problem are you having?

    Sorry, everyone.

Since the updates all I can see is a small box (above where all the formatting tools are) that says "add media". To the right of that is another box to add a form.

I can't pull photos into the posts. The one I did pull in was a fluke I think. I have no idea how it happened.

What happened to all the boxes to add a photo to a post? They've all disappeared. Even editing a photo is totally different, and not easy to do.

I'm pretty good at WP, but this has me totally bamboozled.

Cheryl, along with the video tutorial, here is a basic text tutorial with images that can help guide you in the new way of adding images. This way you can compare and see if perhaps you are missing an option or something.

It's just so strange - I've managed to insert a photo, but on another blog I own.

Have now tried several times on the blog I was asking about, but it just won't work. Have re-installed the latest version of WP and it still won't work.

No idea what else I can do. Getting incredibly frustrated.

I have heard of, but not experienced myself, issues where photos wont upload due to either bad plugins and/or themes. Before you keep pulling your hair out, first try dis-ableing your plugins and/or changing your theme to rule out any possible issues there.

Thanks for this. You've just confirmed what I was beginning to suspect. I'm using a premium theme, but have found other issues with it lately.

Will try changing the theme and fingers crossed it works!

Another valuable lesson when troubleshooting WordPress issues: deactivate all active plugins and revert to one of the 'standard' WP themes first, then clear your browser cache, then retest.

If the trouble has gone away, reactivate the theme you were using then test again. If you're still in the clear, start reactivating plugins, testing after each reactivation, until you've located the source of the problem.

Sorry everyone, I got so caught up in trying to fix this, I forgot to report back.

Well.... basically nothing worked. I spent over two weeks trying everything and got nowhere at all.

In the end I went onto Fiverr.com and secured someone to take a look at it. He was unable to rectify the problem, but installed a plugin that replicates the image process.

It's called "Faster Image Insert". It has done the trick, and was fixed very quickly.

I'd be happy if I could use the 'real' image importer, but it simply won't work. The plugin works in exactly the same fashion, and the outcome is the same.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. Would love to know why this suddenly happened, but I guess it wasn't to be.

The Faster Image Insert is a good plugin, but the problem lies with that fact that your theme is not updated to reflect the large number of changes to the media part of WP.
There is no fix to give you unless there is an understanding about coding WP. Definitely update the theme. The Faster Image Insert plugin is only a band aid to the problem.
Glad you were able to upload your images though!
