I am making the following website for a client (right now it's parked on my test domain) -

Here it is

(1) I need advice about the splash (home) page. How does it look (the font style/size, image, background etc.)?
Other pages still need fine-tuning & are fairly straightforward. As long as the homepage looks good, it's all good!

(2) The website was built on the Genesis framework. Any ideas how to make the footer stick to the bottom of the page, irrespective of the content size?

  • Utterlyweb,

At first glance, I’m not sure what to think about this site. The home page looks ok. I would change the background, it makes the text hard to read and distracts from the elements on the page. Try white, I think that would look best.

Also, what is the site about? That would also probably be helpful to have somewhere on the home page. Generally people need to know this in order to understand that they have made it to the right place.

For the footer, you can try messing with the margin-bottom property of the div with the hook #inner in style.css. I was messing with it in chrome and got the footer to go down. Not sure if it will stick that way for all resolutions but it’s a starting point.

If you right click on an element in chrome and select inspect element, you can mess with the HTML and corresponding CSS code and see changes happening live.

Also, here is a good post on usability tips for websites,

Thanks Shawn, for the constructive suggestions. I tried a white background and actually liked it better, so that's what it is now! Also made the background pattern less opaque. The design has been approved

I'd stripped the homepage of any extra information by design (the site will primarily be visited by people who already know what it's about). But you are right, in most cases some information about the website is important; a principle I myself adhere to.

Thanks for the other links too!

I don't like the homepage fonts. I would change that.

About the inner pages: you still have a lot of work to do.
