I need suggestions for a Fund Raising Website

Hi Everyone,

I've been asked to help create a fund raising website to raise money so that our local stadium can get lights for night-play.

The stadium serves 3 different schools, and without lights it will no longer be useable in the spring sports locations line up.

I know a little about website development but I don't know anything about fund-raising

Can anyone offer any ideas about how to accept online donations and credit card processing?

Any thoughts on how to approach local businesses for sponsors?

Any creative ideas that we can implement for raising money that we can build into the site?

Any ideas on how to help promote the site to the local community and raise awareness? Get free/cheap local advertising, a bit in the newspaper, or anything else that might be helpful?

I'm starting pretty much at zero, so any ideas would be deeplly appreciated, particularly on the technical side about processing money online.

I'm excited to learn these skills, because there is another project that I was hoping to do this year anyway: There is a no-kill animal shelter near my home that I would love to help out, and this skill-set could make a huge difference for them too.

Thanks in advance, everyone!

    Hi,

For processing the money online, using Paypal to take the donations would probably be the easiest.

As far as getting the community involved, you will have to start making calls and knocking on doors. Presenting the project to the local press first could arm you with a published story or two that you can then use as supporting material of the validity and importance of this project when you talk to local businesses.

Offer some sort of recognition, the businesses logo or name somewhere and position it as something that all local businesses will be involved in, make it impossible to refuse.

      Thanks Mgreener.

Thats a nice start. Paypal is easy to work with, and getting some coverage from local media shouldn't be too hard and will get the ball rolling.

      Anyone with any other ideas?

Off-the-wall ideas are fun and graciously accepted.

      Thanks in advance!

        Hi,

I would also be interested in ideas. I am running a non-profit organisation for the promotion of renewable energy.

The advice I got was to ask for donations online on a website and drive lots of traffic there, since it should be easier to find many people donating a dollar each than to find a few people like corporate donations that give a larger amount.

I haven't done it yet since I am probably not too convinced it will work. I would be very interested in ideas or to hear about other's experience.

        Thanks
