Setting up a Blog on Wordpress Website

I have a website that was built for me by a web designer using wordpress. Now I have decided I want to add a blog to the site so I have setup a new page where I want the blog to go.

Then I have gone to reading settings and changed my home page to a static page and changed the posts page to 'blog' from the drop down menu.

Now the blog isn't laid out how I would like and I was wondering if I could install a blog theme to this particular page and keep my header and footer to keep with the look and feel of the rest of my site?

The reason I want to use an existing theme is because I don't know enough about web design to change how the blog page looks at the moment.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Ok thanks, I didn't think you could.

Is there a lot of work involved in coding a blog? Ive had a quote from the person who designed my site and it seems a little steep for just a blog.

you are looking for solution to format each of your blogs? without changing the overall theme.
My question is what kind of change you want. can you not do it using the editor?

Yes I am looking to format the blog and the blog posts. The default template looks crap at the moment so I want it to look more readable and add social media sharing buttons etc.

OK, let's try to clarify a few things (and please feel free to send your "designer" here so that he gets this lesson, too):
    - setting up a site using WordPress (WP) doesn't make anybody a designer - just a beginner webmaster!
    - if he modified the WP theme templates in a way that using the correct way (i.e. what you did in Settings) to set up a blog/posts page wouldn't work on your blog - he is bad even for beginner WP webmaster and should give back the money you paid him!

Now, if the theme template is functional and you just simpy don't like it... that's a completely different issue. (btw, adding social media buttons is NOT considered re-design - there are plugins that would do it automatically after activation)
However, if he modified the default templates (which a knowledgeable WP developer would never do!) and that's why they look "crap" - he must fix it without payment and should also apologize for screwing the blog.
