Does anyone actually proof read their tutorials?

OK 3 days into a tutorial on building your own Wordpress themes. What looked to be a promising lesson tuned out to be a monstrous waist of time . Yeah, so I'm 3 days in and I find that the author is apparently unable to follow what he's doing which leaves me trying to follow a long on code that doesn't exist.... at 3 days in it really pisses you of if you know what I mean.

OK I just needed to vent a little and also I was hoping maybe someone here had their own recommendations for tutorials. The one I was working through was here

    The envato network.
    (psdtuts, wptuts, nettuts, webdesigntuts)

However, make sure you read all the comments at the end of the tutorial.
Not all tutorials are great and many tutorials have issues that readers point out and fix in the comments area.

    Best authors that I like:
    Tom McFarlin,
    Pippin Williamson ,
    and Stephen Harris
They know WP and can be trusted.

Also pippinsplugins.com has many super beginner tutorials.

Thanks for the reply that's just what I was looking for.

As I've been looking into this I figured I would probably find more things and aspects about WP that I'd want to learn about As it is I ended up going to the Wordpress Codex which I had always shied away from simply because it seems to get pretty top heavy with information pretty fast i.e. information overload. but so far it's looking pretty doable and I find it often helps to get more than one persons explanation about a given subject. Especially technical subjects.

The codex is a fantastic resource for WP developers, but it definitely can be overwhelming without some base knowledge.
It's best served as a reference rather then a teaching tutorial(s).

Also, Adam Browns WordPress Hook Reference comes in real handy at times.
