guys help me out.

I've done this a few times before and it always stumps me.

purchased my domain name (namecheap) and filled out the DNS nameservers (hostgator nameservers).

went to the site's cpanel page www.domain/cpanel

when I go into fantastico and go add new installation, my domain isn't there. what step am I missing?

In the Hostgator cpanel, you need to go to Domains->Add On Domains

After inserting your DNS settings at your registrar to point to your hosting account, you then must use your HostGator cPanel to create the addon domain. If you don't know how to do that, a quick chat or phone call to HostGator should get you squared away.

After that, rather than using Fantastico, you would be better off following the instructions on how to install WordPress manually, as given on the WordPress.org website.

    Hey

I have a question that looks like it fits into this thread.

I transferred my DNS settings at Namecheap over to Hastgator. I went into the Add-on domain on my C-panel and apparently added my new domain correctly because I see it listed along with my other domains.

Now....How do I get to the point where I can start messing with my theme adding content etc.? I already have Fantastico installed on my computer. The last time I did this I had step by step instructions on how to install Wordpress which also set-up my domain for me.

I don't need to install WP I just want to get to the point where I can start adding content to my new blog.

    Any help would be appreciated

That sounds quite messy - or you just don't get it...

Fantastico should NOT be on your computer: it is a software used by host companies to automate the installation of different scripts.

If you have added your domain (I have to confess: I hate add-on domains because they confuse they shit out of novice users!), now you MUST install whatever script you want to use on it. For example, WordPress.

If you have 17 domains and you want WordPress on all of them - that means 17 WP installations!

Actually, you do need to install WP if you want to add content to it...

Thanks, I got through the WP installation and everything looks good. But....when I click on my WP-admin link on the WP install page I get the following message-

    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

When I try to log in with just the mywebsite.com I get redirected to NameCheap's domain is owned page.

I checked my account with NameCheap and my nameservers look good.

    Thanks again for helping me

UPDATE...I deleted it and then reinstalled it and I got this error

XML Parsing Error: unexpected parser state
    Location: jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Firefox/omni.ja!/chrome/toolkit/content/global/netError.xhtml
    Line Number 308, Column 50: <div id="ed_netReset">&netReset.longDesc;</div

UPDATE...I unplugged my modem and it fixed the problem
