Hello everyone,

I am trying to select a wiki for my site. I am reading up on the many wikis that are available and selecting one is a task. The WikiMatrixhttp://www.wikimatrix.org/wizard.php can help in the elimination process but I am unable to answer some of the questions.

1. Which programming language do you prefer. I am not familiar with programming languages.

Please choose the languages that are okay for you. Choose none if you haven't any restrictions.
.NET - C#
.NET, VB, C#
ASP
ASP, XML, XSL, CSS
ASP.NET C#
ASP.Net MVC 3 (C# with Razor view engine)
Basic4PPC (.NET)

Java
JavaScript

Perl

PHP
PHP, C# on Mono (open source platform independent .NET
PHP, SQL, JavaScript

Programming Language Not relevant (completely self-contained)
Python

Rails
REBOL
Ruby

Shell
Smalltalk
tdbengine/EASY
Various (but completely self-contained)
XOTcl and Tcl

2. For storage: Database or file?

3. Own wiki software or hosted by someone else?

Any comments or guidance will be most appreciated.

Is anyone here familiar with wikis?

Instead of bumping go back and rephrase your vague question... and explain why I shouldn't delete this thread from this forum?

I edited the post and hope my questions are more precise. Now that I stated the questions more specifically I am not so sure that the thread goes in the 'website design' forum. It may be best in the programming forum. It would be up to you to decide if it should be moved or deleted.

      Peace.

I can move it (and maybe I will) - but if you are only going to install and run the wiki for adding content... from your point of view it is completely irrelevant in which language has been written.

Are you planning to mess with the code and modify the wiki engine? - Most likely, no.
Are you planning to make modifications in coding? - Most likely, no.

Forget the language: focus on the kind of functionality you need!
