Heeelp! How do I backup a website or download it to upload it to a different web hosting company?

Hello folks!

I bought a website and the person I bought it from sent me a zip file. I figured out how to open it... Then, I learned about Filezilla and tried to transfer the file to the hosting account. There was a little problem and some of the files failed to transfer. The problem was that Yahoo (the hosting service) somehow has some problems with the upload of .htaccess files.

Well, the person I bought the website ( www.titansubmitter.com ) from did a little re-coding of the files that 'failed' to transfer and all the files have now been transferred to the hosting account. Now, the situation is that I am going to use a different hosting company as a similar problem (uploading .htaccess) has happened with another website I am working on ( philosophyonline.net | ) which is on Wordpress and Yahoo does not service third party including Wordpress.

That said, I already have opened a hosting account with a different company and before I cancel the hosting service with Yahoo, I want to save what I have somehow, and then upload to the new hosting accounting.

I am reading this article How To: Backup and Migrate your WordPress site with BackupBuddy and will continue to search for some understanding on how I can do this.

I wonder if some of you Warriors can help me with this situation. I am in over my head, I am a newbie and have never transferred a website before nor backed one up.

I see that Back Up Buddy cost money, is there a free way to do this?
