Hostgator should have a help section and maybe even videos. Check their site, I'm sure it's all in there :-)

Host Gator has a One Click Installation module were you can automatically install a wordpress site with a simply click of a mouse. There support would even help you with it.

Very Simple... Then find a theme online, and you can upload it directly inside your wordpress admin panel.. Fairly Easy!

Perhaps you should eventually youtube some videos/tutorials on using a FTP Client.

You don't need FTP just to set up a blog, unless you want visitors to be able to download an ebook, add a custom header or build a static html squeeze page and upload it to the same domain.

Hey,

Using you Control panel - Select the platform -

Softaculous under services. You can create a Word press site and then get going. There are plenty of videos on you tube which will give you tutorials how to go about word press sites and creation if your knowledge is limited.

Now for FTP - FILEZILLA You can use this for uploading to your server. Along side this you can use NVU to create HTML pages also.

Also remember your hosting company will offer free live chat for support so use them when you need to. They generally are very good. However the INTERNET has everything at your disposal in regards to how to videos

To set up a Wordpress blog with Hostgator is very simple. ON your Cpanel you need to look for Fastastico Deluxe and click on there. It is really very simple. You don't need FTP for a Wordpress blog.

You can actually search it up on Youtube. There are many videos on youtube that will show you exactly how to do it. Hope this helps!

It takes time to learn these procedures. I learned watching YouTube videos.

Same advice as above, basically. Here's what I did.

In HostGator Cpanel, find Fantastico, it's a 1-click install of WordPress. Download FileZilla (FTP - File Transfer Protocol) it's FREE!!! - Watch videos, search 'G' on How-To-Use-Filezilla to upload your WordPress theme, and content files.

If you are new to all this, be patient, read instructions, and watch videos, it's really not that hard.

PS - this thread should've been posted in web design help, just sayin'

Almost every hosting provider has a 1 click install for wordpress. That means you go into the cpanel or equivilant and search for 'wordpress' ....you'll find something like Fantastico, directions are easy to follow.

You'll have a wordpress blog with a default theme. You can start making posts or pages until you figure out if you want a custom theme.... there's plenty of free ones.

If I were you though, I would take the time to learn about FTP and how to do it. Its a basic part of building websites and getting content online. Someone mentioned Filezilla, its perfect...easy to use and free .....one place to find it is here FileZilla - Client Download

Go to youtube and search for "how to use filezilla" or "how to ftp with filezilla" something like that and you'll find enough info to get a PhD in FTP'ing

Just install it using Fantastico in your cpanel. However, you're only limited by what you refuse to learn. There's a million tutorials on ftp. Learn how to ftp. You won't regret it.

For FTP wise, I would recommend like the above, FileZilla.

It's free, easy to use and user friendly!

Just install it in your local machine (your pc), login your online hosting ftp credentials, and start transferring your files offline to your server online =)

Make sure you know which directory to transfer to! Usually is "WWW" or "public_html" dir by default.

Hostgator has a massive amount of training on it's site - use it.

FTP was a problem for me, too, when I started online. It seems a big deal - and it isn't. I found coreftp lite (free) to be easier to use than filezilla but that's just me.

Fantastico in HG does the ftp work for you. For me, ftp is still "magic" but I learned how to do the magic tricks. You will learn it - don't let little stuff like this frighten you.

Are you referring to the 1-click installs in CPanel, such as Fantastico???

If so, please elaborate further, as I have had well over 100 WordPress installs using Fantastico and NEVER once had any issues.

I will agree, learning ftp is an essential step, but for the initial install of the WordPress platform, I haven't had any problems.
