Hello,

So i recently thought id start trying to make wordpress themes.... i can make a good design in photoshop but that when i get stuck. I have read some wordpress tutorials about creating wordpress themes however they are mostly about php coding. I read one what told me to slice the photoshop image into bits.. six to be exact and then what i do with them.. who knows....

anyway is there any software out there that you can simply import the full psd with layers or an image and then manually select, high light bits then define what they are.

Like for example all i want is to make a basic theme no custom functions.

so i select the header part of my image and click something in the program to say this is my header... and again with footer, content, navigation....

Is there any good software to do this? Also i dont want to make loads of pointless images just the main parts (as one tutorial i read said this is bad) also i need my theme to be seo friendly and secure.

Any help?

Thank you

I am not sure but there were a few apps which can do it. But if you are thinking of "theme development" then learn php, html, css, go through the wordpress codex...and then start coding them by hand.

If everything happened from softwares, then there would be no developers in this planet....

Could you clarify this? I'm confused. It's seems like your after a program that will turn a PSD into a Wordpress Theme? You would first need to manually code the PSD into valid Html with CSS.

One you have a basic layout you can then start working on blank theme customising it into your own. I would HIGHLY suggest looking at WordPress 3: Creating and Editing Custom Themes | Video Tutorial from lynda.com

Yep, you need a working html/css template.

You could then use something like Artisteer - web design software and joomla template maker ... but to be honest, I have never tried it (do not need it).

It's better to start learning html/css/php and do it yourself.

I know about something that does exactly what you said, is a Photoshop plugin but is not free. It's called Divine, is $199 but it has a 7 days free trial. You can test it and see if is worth the money.

Suggesting Artisteer ought to make a person eligible for a wet-noodle thrashing. Artisteer-produced themes - for WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, whatever - are total crap if you're all concerned about things like semantic, efficient markup and lightweight page size. Stay away from it. I don't even think it's good to learn from, with all the bad coding it uses.
