Leaning on the collective minds again...really simple ask... I have a site
In the blog section I would like the images or videos to show in the snippet - similar to what tim ferris does at fourhourworkweek site
I am skypeing with the person who designed the site and struggling to communicate the requirement. Is there something I can do myself when putting in a post? He is making is sound like a black art.

Thank folks - just can't figure it.

Struggling even to insert in post !! oh dear...

This link will take you to snippet as you will see no pics or video in the snippet part you would have to click on appropriate post and "red more" to see image - would be better if image or video was right there in the post

        Istvan

Thanks for taking the time to reply - for the avoidance of doubt I was not saying this is easy - I was suggesting that many ( obviously you) would see this as a basic question that is easily resolved. But like all stupid questions if the asker does not know the answer it is not a stupid question. Agree with you on tec' stuff I am never going to commit to learning it or being an im'er and will therefore rely on the knowledge and ability of providers.

For the same reason I do not fix my own car or tax return, leave it to those who know what they are doing. Just want this to look as slick as possible I don't have 100 affiliate blog sites anything I do represents me to offline clients....appreciate your response and every one who takes the time to reply. I appreciate there are other things you could do with your time

    Start learning the WP terminology:
    - it is NOT 'snippet', it is called "excerpt" in WP.
    - by default, HTML tags are stripped off in excerpts
    - what you are asking: to have img tags in the excerpts (more general request: HTML tags in excerpts(

There are plugins, there is code for the functions.php, there is the Codex (the online WP manual).

Also, in that wilkerson site, you or your webmaster should figure out:
    - it is using a custom template (most likely home.php or a Page template) that displays 3 posts on the top and the rest in a grid of two column, using excerpts.
    - if he doesn't know how to do it, ask your money back: people were doing WP sites like that many years ago...

Reminder: and don't ever start you question with "this is easy" or "this is simple"...
If it was, you wouldn't be here asking.

So you just want a video in the post, nothing more... and a cover/poster picture. Click on picture will start movie, right?

Yes. Every time I make a new blog post...I would like the excerpt (see I'm learning) to have an image or video (whatever I put in..along with the first few lines of the post article.

Once again: we agree there is no stupid question and the intention of this forum's owner was to create/have a place where IMers can ask web design related questions (including HTML, CSS, WP etc.)

And as you can see, I happily answer questions if there is a relatively simple solution.
However, I always get mean if people "assume" the difficulty of an issue. Although, maybe I misread your OP.

So, once again: all you need is a custom main page template in your theme (it could be home.php or a Page template, depending on WHAT are the settings of your WP: posts on main page or using a static page... which still doesn't exclude having dynamically displayed posts on it!)

In this template you (the webmaster guy) should have a custom Loop, maybe two - see the Codex - and modified excerpts to display HTML tags.

I swear I did something like that around 2007 or so. We were using the first image uploaded to the post and the script (template file) took the thumb version of it [btw, you can define the thumb's size in your setting!]. We had one full-width posts on top and 6 more in a 2x3 grid.

Of course, the numbers can be changed, you just have to be able to tell the idea. Hm... why didn't you show the example page to him, as you did for us? I might sound mean but if looking at that site he can NOT figure out what to do, he's in the wrong line of work. He should dig ditches
