I have never done this before, can you help.
A client of mine is closing down his B & B business. He therefore want to close his website down for future bookings. He also wants a simple home page left to give map directions and basic info for existing bookings.

Is OK to clear out the site through Filezilla and reload up the new page? Or is there a better way to approach this?

Added Info - It is not a wordpress blog. html site done in Dreamweaver

Thanks

KenJ

    Don't over-complicate it

The way you described it - it's the perfect way to do it!
Delete everything (including database if it had one) from the server. Upload the new page (and images, whatever is needed).

      Thanks Istvan,

I do tend to over complicate things.

I would FTP the files to your computer before deleting and .zip them up for him... just in case.

Delete everything? Has anybody heard of 404 Errors? If you delete everything then any Google listings for the deleted pages, or any bookmarked links to the deleted pages will return 404 - Page Not Found messages to the visitor. This is a very clumsy way to do things.

Yes, go ahead and delete everything, but then edit the server .htaccess file and add one line of code. This will cause your Home page to be displayed if any requests are made for the deleted pages:

    ErrorDocument 404 /

Why not redirect the homepage to a custom page where old customers can get their booking info rather than deleting all the files.. Deleting the files will do no good unless you really don't need them for later use or reference..
