I have a client who wants a logo similar to the "X" on this site The xx
What kind of skillset shoud I be looking to hire for this, is it, animation, motion graphics, flash, I am not sure.

The logo will be a different shape and different effects/themepacks and will be used on a similarly styled page within a website built on the Wordpress platform.

Thanks for your input.

    The site is flash-based.
Don't really need a developer as the site is pretty straight forward.
You will need someone that is creative to animate the logo in Flash platform.

Go eLance, odesk.. You can find good talents there.

The logo is to be used on a wordpress site. Not a flash-based site.
Creating the website is not my issue. That is already done. What I need is to get the client's logo done in a similar way to the logo on The xx website The xx

Are you saying a flash professional is what I need? Thanks

First, since it's a logo, you should tell him that won't be possible. But he can be possible for as a website feature. Whereas, the logo on the website can only be animated to use on their website (it won't be an animation on a business card — hopefully that'll be obvious).

But if they want it on the site, then you probably are looking for a graphic designer that specializes in logo design or a popular ad agency that actually does and features high quality work. It's a simple logo, but the animation isn't, and that's why I said a specialist that normally works with logos of a highly skilled agency.

Thanks Jarod. The client understands all this. However, the logo will feature significantly around what their business represents and of such is to be the main feature of the website occupying most of the homepage. Their logo is a set of circles and each circle should react differently, using different theme packs, so its more complex than the X logo. That is why I'm now thinking it may need a flash developer.

There is a browser released that handles Flash content for iDevices (Puffin), the truth is most people don't know or care enough about Flash to do anything about it. That browser isn't mainstream like the default browser (Safari) which 95% of users will be using. These devices amounted to about 75% of mobile traffic on one site I built recently, and this site was getting about 40% of its traffic overall from mobile (60% desktop). Thats a lot of potential visitors who won't even see the Flash animation, so it shouldn't be overlooked.

If its just the shape of the 'X' you're after with your clients logo, then any graphic designer worth his salt should be able to reproduce that easily. Even some of those Fiverr logo designers should be able to do this, so there is minimal cost involved here. I have bookmarked about 3 go-to Fiverr logo designers that produce awesome results for small jobs like this given the budget they are working for. Search for them by rating and read other peoples comments, or do a crowd-source and employ 3 different Fiverr designers and give them all the same brief, and then just pick the best logo. Some will offer 3 concepts, so you might get around 9 designs to pick from depending on who you choose. Total cost - $15. You charge the client $100 - $150, they're happy and you're in profit.
@MrMonetize, The first thing I did was explain all the drawbacks of using flash on his site but as esplained to Jarod, their logo will feature significantly around what their business represents and of such is to be the main feature of the website occupying most of the homepage.

Their logo is a set of circles and each circle should start animating one at a time and animate differently to the other circles by using different theme packs to achieve this, so its much more complex than the X logo. That is why I'm now thinking it may need a flash developer even someone experienced with motion graphics, I really don't know for sure, but I know this is more than a fiverr job. I have never had such a request in all my 9 years of web design. I believe what they want is achievable but its a tricky one.

Then you need to explain the pitfalls of using Flash again as their designer, be persistent but polite. There are far more advantages to not using Flash, than using it. I used to code Flash years ago when I first started developing, but as soon as I learnt SEO I dropped it from my toolbox. It's far better to have 100% of your visitors been able to see your site, than satisfying 70% of them with a Flash animation. Making money is all about the traffic no matter what business you have, and first impressions count especially online.

Is this effect going to achieve anything? Will it be a menu, or is it just to look pretty? Why not convince them to have a video that does that? You could create a white website background with a white video background that starts playing with no controls or border. It could be made to look like a flash animation, but it won't be interactive. Host it somewhere like Vimeo and they will play it in an HTML5 player for non Flash devices.
