Is Genesis the best and easiest?

Wordpress Experts,

Do you agree that Genesis is the best WP framework for online business? Can any theme be used with Genesis, or does it have to be a StudioPress theme? What would you use, if starting your first WP site right now?

I want to use the Miranda theme, purchased from Josee on this forum. It looks very similar to StudioPress Executive theme. So it should be fine to use with Genesis, right?

Ask the folks at Genesis. I use Genesis myself and the child theme option I've chosen to go with is Prose. Mainly because it's super easy to change the font size with Prose - moreso than with any other of their child themes. Anyway, whenever I've sent them a query at support@copyblogger.com, they've gotten right back quickish

Copyblogger just got back to me. It was very quick too. Will check out the Prose theme.

If your going to use Genesis, then any and all child themes must be made to run on the Genesis framework.

    Only from StudioPress?
Not necessarily, there are other authors who build Genesis child themes, but they must be made for Genesis.

    Is it the best?
No way to really answer that question.
The best for what? There is no best "all in one" for all needs.

Use a theme or framework that fulfills all your needs and that will be the best. (assuming it's a quality coded theme).

Overall? Genesis is a good theme/framework as far as coding and extensible. They rely heavily on custom hooks which might confuse newbies, but they have good documentation.

As far as the Miranda theme, ask the author if he built it as a child theme for the Genesis framework. If not, then no you can't use it with Genesis.

Thank you David. You are the expert. If you were setting up a local marketing consulting website, which framework (if that is the correct term) would you use? I find this all confusing. Wish I could just hire someone, but who can you trust to do quality work?

Prose is strictly a blogging theme. No pizazz. Humans need eye candy. Most will immed click away if the website is dull looking.

You don't want to know what framework I would use... my knowledge/ability is a little different

The type of site (local marketing consulting) is not really as relevant as how you will use the site, which ties in with the knowledge of the user/owner.

Some themes are fairly turn-key and loaded with bells-n-whistles so the user can just click-click-click the settings.
Other themes require more user interaction and a basic level of knowledge to use since the turn-key settings are just not there.

Using a theme doesn't seem to be the issue as much as people wanting to modify the design of the site and/or theme.
When a newbie with no design and/or coding knowledge tries to make the site look the way they want, it can be a "hard row to hoe" as the saying goes.

Lot's of people have the knowledge to do this for you, but your right, finding someone trustworthy is much tougher.
If you don't know anyone specific, you might just post on a large freelance site (or maybe try within the WF here), but you need to be specific with your needs and do your best to screen people out.

There are tons of people who are hiring themselves out as web designers or web developers who barely know more then you do, and they get the job done barely and crudely. (ahhhuuumm....looking at you fiverr).

Personally I like Genesis, but if your going that route (and yes it could work for your site), make sure you choose a child theme as close as possible to your needs as this will cut down on custom work.

One of the advantages for you in using Genesis, is the large community/users surrounding it.
It's big and popular, so lot's of documentation/tutorials.

EDIT: This question (generically speaking) has been asked many times. The final answer is always the same and Istvan Horvath (web design moderator) has answered this question many times.
Define your needs, make a list
Define your needs, make a list.
That's what it boils down to. Then choose a theme that fits your needs the best.
There is no all-in-one, there is no easiest, there is no "the best".
I define what I'm doing, why, and how, then I either build a theme, use a framework at times, or maybe not even use WordPress but something else.

Eye candy sounds good, and as much as I love creative design, the content and copywriting is number one before design.
Plenty of butt-ugly sites have proven this, and plenty of white space topography type sites have shown this.
        Copy is king.

I love Genesis Framework for Wordpress. It is highly intuitive and user-friendly. I have been using Genesis to build and design Wordpress websites since 2010. In my opinion, it is one of the best! Cheers!
