Perhaps, you missed the warning on G fonts page:

    Impact on page load time

Tip: Using many font styles can slow down your webpage, so only select the font styles that you actually need on your webpage.
Do you really need 4 different fonts? - Any designer could tell you the simple answers: no, you don't.

Remember: anything that is relying on a script from a third party server will slow down any website. No exception. And G. even warned you about it. You just didn't want to read it

Always remember that additional fonts may result in more http requests. The more of them the slower your page will load. Also the size of the font is important. I would suggest you use google fonts or font face. Dunno about the second but the first one has a humm 'speed-o-meter' which indicates how fast your page should load with the equipped font. 4 fonts can be a little bit too much. It depends to what type of font it is and what is it's initial size when loading. I've experienced by myself that sometimes using 2 sophisticated looking fonts from google fonts can make your page load slower.

Btw. Why google fonts and font face? Cause if properly configured, the fonts will be loaded from their server which will unburden your one. You may laugh as it's 'only font, no big deal' but I have a simple rule 'Always strive to make it use as low resources as possible'. You'll thank me later

Of course, there are more http request, so more usage on your server's cpu, and also bandwidth downloading the fonts before rendering the page.
