Best way to deliver video content in a WP membership site?

Hi all.

A friend and I are developing a membership site for guitar lessons, which range from beginner to advanced.

I want to build the site on Wordpress, and am wondering the best way to deliver the video content to the members after they have logged in. Is there an elegant solution (i.e. a plugin) to present an entire 'level' of videos in gallery form? Or another suggestion?

Any help is appreciated!

If you're building a membership website, Wishlist Member, S2 Member and things like that should be able to give you that function. Basically you can allow certain content to be displayed for specific group members. So if someone's on a basic membership they can see more than someone whose in for free and the advanced membership members can see basically everything or whatever...

I guess that's what you're looking for right?

    Actually...

I think I misunderstood the question. Do you have a website that has a similar function to what you're looking for? There are Video Gallery plugins out there but we won't really know unless you have an example.

Code Canyon may also be a good site to check out and hopefully you can find some "elegant" plugins there too.

Hey ShaolinSteve, thanks for your responses.

No, I don't have a particular look in mind ... I'm open to any ideas that improve upon the default look (embedding the videos within posts or pages). It's just a matter of styling, making it easy for users to navigate the content in order and, preferably, having it look as presentable as possible.

      Checking out Code Canyon now!

Try drip feed. I use DAP (Digital Access Pass) to drip feed my contents into a sequence per week or per day. You can actually set it up on the membership site under DAP.

Just sharing this idea maybe you can use it.

Thanks for the suggestion Jay, but we'll be putting up the content as we make it. There are a couple of reasons why we decided against drip-feed:

      1. As well as an initial bulk of videos, we will be producing new video content on a regular basis, making drip-feed less of a necessity than if the content was limited.

      2. There's an broad range of video types: acoustic and electric lessons, beginner to advanced, mimicking, creativity, Q&As etc. People will be picking and choosing their videos, learning at their own rate.

We also decided against DAP, despite all the lovely things that have been said about it, because I both have experience with WishList and it integrates seamlessly with Clickbank (which will be our processor).

        Hi ElGuapo,

Many membership plugins require customer to click on the "Return to vendor's web site" in order for the order to be processed and customer to be added to membership site. Nearly 1/3rd of buyers will forget (or not know how) to do that, which could result in many unhappy customers as well as a customer service- and PR-nightmare for you.

And if you're going with ClickBank as your processor, I'm sure you will want to do upsells at some point using "PitchPlus" (you should, otherwise you will be leaving money on the table). So make sure whatever plugin you choose also works with CB PitchPlus as well, because most don't.

And as you may have guessed by now, DAP has neither of those problems above, just FYI :-)

        Cheers!

    1. A membership site doesn't have to be WP. Sometimes more specialized scripts could do a better job than a WP install snitched with all kind of plugins... Some plugins are better than others. Make (for yourself) a list of the required backend features - not superficial front-end gizmos that pleases the eyes!!! - for the membership site and then look for a solution that answers your needs.

    2. Actually, the real question is not how to show "elegantly" a gallery of videos... but how can your host(ing account) handle the traffic and bandwidth if you get a lot of customers.
Most basic shared hosting accounts are not an ideal solution for either downloading or streaming lots of videos.
Also, do you already know whether you want the buyers to download or to watch online? (might require different approach).

    3. As mentioned above, there is also the issue of dripping content or give them in bulk all the videos: your membership site strategy should be different for each option.

Since you are still in the planning phase - with due diligence in preparation and planning you can avoid a lot of headache that could come down the road.

Perhaps, but I am very comfortable building large sites with Wordpress, and many successful membership sites have been built with WP. I would rather not lose the time trying to master another platform, especially considering the technical/programming aspects of internet marketing are my weak point.

That's exactly what I am doing.

My plan is in development, which is why I came here looking for help to plug a hole in my knowledge. I am not looking for a "superficial front-end gizmo", just a way to make the membership content as presentable as possible to the customer. I consider that to be part of delivering a strong customer experience.

I have VPS hosting ready to rock, and I will be hosting the videos at Amazon S3 for streaming. I am prepared to upgrade whenever necessary.

All the content will be given in bulk.
