So I am a newbie at this, I have done a lot of reading, and am trying to put things in practice. I use weebly as my editor, and I know my site is bland right now. But I have no clue which way to go with its design. A lot of the other themes seem to be over doing it.

I have been fiddling with it for days, but have found that one look that I like.
So I am opening the floor. Rip my site to shreds,

You do not have to be nice about, I can take criticism.

First things I'd do is set a solid white background for the content and get yourself a logo (maybe try 99designs.com for $99 logos or look in the warriors for hire section).

Solid white huh? I'll give that try. I'll also definitely look into my own logo. I am pretty well versed in illustrator/photoshop.

      any thoughts on the text?

        The font or the copy?

More Font-wise, but I actually spent a great deal of time working on the site last night and this morning. Putting in a White background really made things pop.

I also made some changes to the general hierarchy of the information on the pages. Made things easier to read, shortened some stuff up etc.

          Thanks for the pointers guys.

I can't see the white background on my laptop. Maybe it's the Mac. I'd also make your text darker - it's taking me time to focus on it.

  • You also need to have a look at your html tags. Your article title is only a <h2> (it should be a <h1>) and your other headings down the page are not using any tags at all. Your paragraphs are not using <p> tags either.

If the page is showing more than one title and you set it to H1...now you have 6 H1 tags on your blog page. It might cause a reverse of what your wanting?

      On with the review.

      Some article don't have images?

I'd add an awesome image to every article. As a matter of fact I'd take a look at running an image across the full length of the blog post at the top and I'd pin every image.

I'd also look at redoing the layout of the blog page to show snippets and run them side by side and maybe have a little slider there as well just to give a little more character to the page. Now that's just on the home page for the blog.

I'm pretty sure he's saying to use H1 tag for the inner pages and h2 for the home page.

Honestly it's not bad at all, it has a very clean look to it.
Right off the bat I would say that the biggest issue is the contrast between the background and the other elements. They are way too light and it makes it annoying and hard to read.

I like it overall, just it needs a logo. It`s readable, everything is in place now, the color choice shows it`s a "green" site. just the logo, and you`re done. Ah, and i don`t understand what`s with those two grey lines under the header...
