Facebook comments disappear when I migrate to new plugin - Help!

Hi,

I've been having a hell of a time with my FB comments plugin on my site: How to Create a Facebook Lookalike Audience

It was working fine but I always got a funny error message until I left the first comment. then it disappeared. All of the sudden the nesting stopped working a few weeks ago. When I try to reply to someone I just get a "oops, something is not working" message.

The problem seems to be that the FB app I'm using hasn't be updated for threaded comments. Here's an article about the changes:

To Improve Conversations, Facebook Will Launch A Reply Feature And Most Active Threads On Pages And Popular Profiles | TechCrunch

I have tried changing the plugin to several different ones (including the official FB plugin), but It seems that the FB app I'm using is the only one that can access the old comments because it's using what I think is some kind of older method (XID) to assign the comments to the site. So whenever I switch plugins all my old comments disappear which really hurts my site as those comments really establish a lot of credibility.

I found this thread which gave me hope for a solution but it didn't work:
facebook - Integrating old fb:comments with the new comment moderation tool - Stack Overflow

How can I switch to a new plugin without losing my old comments, or get the threading to work on my existing plugin, which is "facebook comments for wordpress". Updating to a new plugin seems the better option.

I'd be extremely grateful for a solution.
