How Do I Make this Look More Professional?

The homepage of one of our sites looks a bit unprofessional to me, but I can't figure out what to add (or subtract).

For one, I think the headline section of the homepage needs to be modified. Perhaps it needs a color strip behind it or something, or maybe just the font of the "Sell Your House..." heading changed. To be honest, I don't like the font of that headline, but I couldn't think of what exactly to do to it to make it look better, and to make it fit-in better with the rest of the page.

What could I add to this page, or to that headline in particular that will make the homepage look just a tad more professional?

Thanks in advance for your help and feedback

Try to be consistent with your fonts. The font of your menu and that of your subtitle is different.
I would have loved to see all the text below. The black text is kinda looking dull.
Try to change how your menu looks on hover.
Make your footer background darker because the text is hard to read on that background.
But I must say that you have a wonderful overall design.

      Thanks.

Might anyone be able to help me identify what kingshad is referring to when he/she says "I would have loved to see all the text below...?"

What text are you referring to? Here's a link to the website, for your convenience

Also, might anyone be able to give me a suggestion or example of how I can make my menu look on hover? Thanks!

The font color on the footer is too dim, when it has a dark grey background.
or if you want choose i lighter background with a darker font, since your body background is all white.
The rest seems to be OK.
I like the social media icons.

    Font should be universal.
The header having all CAPITAL is not looking good.
After Step 4 and the dotted line, try to have LEARN MORE button in center after some space between the line on it..

Try these and it will look good !

Change that "learn more" button...and use some other colors for your footer.

How would you recommend the "Learn More" button's appearance be improved?

Can someone please give me some constructive criticism as to how I can design a button that looks better than the one on the homepage?

I agree it looks kinda hideous, I'm just unsure of what to do to make it look better (other than changing the font color back to white, as it originally was).

Try playing with this color wheel:
            https://kuler.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/

The problem you are having is the color of the button is fighting for attention with the color of the text.

Thanks, now I just have to figure out how to use it. It looks confusing as heck. I'm on Youtube looking for an instructional video on color wheels.

If you can get to grips with it it will help you out loads.
When making a website I set-up a mood board which includes base colors I will be using.
If you plan these things in advance your life will be much simpler

                All the best

Thanks James. For now I just need to get this thing cleaned up a bit so I can move forward.

I'm going to try to get it back to a blue button with white text, or maybe the opposite so I can move forward. I have no idea how it magically changed to red text.

Oh God, that is hideous! LOL

A color wheel is easy to use. Just choose your main color, and then the two colors directly opposite are your matching colors. Color wheels are absolutely essential for us manly men when designing anything since we don't see shades of fuschia and stuff like that. I see white, black, money, and beer. Those are about the only four colors I see unless I try real hard.

What screen resolution and browser are you designing on? Nothing is lining up on my computer. I'm on a 23" 1080p monitor with the Chrome browser and your site alignment is all over the place. Check it out.

Also, I think you can really improve the overall look of your site by adding a drop shadow to the edges of the content area or at least a slightly contrasting border. Something more like this. I just threw that together real fast in photoshop, so there's little errors and stuff, but you get the idea.

You can get the code for that button here: http://www.dreamtemplate.com/dreamco...e_buttons.html

I'm using Chrome, and my screen resolution is 1366 x 768.

After looking at your first screenshot above, I don't see what you're saying is showing up out-of-alignment other than the Learn More button, which I'm going to relocate here soon.

How do I go about adding that drop shadow? I like how it looks on your screenshot. I looked here at this tutorial and also considered using this Wordpress plugin, but I'm not sure how I'd go about implementing it on something that's already in-place.

Plus your header needs more whitespace, you have things crashing in to each other all over the place

Might you be able to show me a screenshot of what you see? I don't understand what you mean when you say stuff is "crashing into each other all over the place."

This is what I see on my screen. It look fine to me, but then again, I'm far from a pro at designing stuff, so maybe you're noticing something I'm not.

      Thanks.

Are you speaking about all of the words in the footer, or just some of them? If you're talking about just some of them, which ones? Thanks for your input.

Crap. Somehow the footer has expanded to cover the entire width of the screen now.

How do I shorten it horizontally, so it's the width of the middle column of the page again?

You guys have been a ton of help. One more question, if I may:

How can I go about making this "How it Works" section look better on the homepage? The black looks dull, but I'm not sure if changing that font to the same color of the header is a good idea... Basically I'm not sure how to make it look better.

I would suggest, please hire some website design company so that you can get a fresh design because every part of the website needs modification.
