Is there a way to build a social network page by page from scratch using plugins and widgets on WP? I know it will take awhile to create but can I do it? If so is there any helpful guides? :confused:

    yes, you can do that using buddypress and other related plugins.

      I used buddypress but it wasn't what I was looking for. I'm not trying to turn my entire site into a social network. I just want a login/sign up tab that will direct the user to a diferent set of pages on my site.

      Is that possible in Buddypress? I didn't think it was but I'm not sure.

    Of course it is, but you will probably need to develop buddypress and extend it a little

    If this isn't for you, you will probably struggle to find something that fits your exact needs without a little development.

        I'm looking to make a social network for a specific place. Where people can let each other know about events and status' all the while having their own profile and can follow, share, like, vote, kind of like Facebook.

        So I'm looking to make a somewhat Facebook system but for a specific place.

      Do you think it would take a lot of time to build it exactly the way I want or do you think it would be more logical to just go with something like one of these pre-made setups like ning.com or something?

    buddypress and the related plugins. But why not choose a standalone SNS scripts like dolphin and openPNE ? They are easier to configure.
