Hi, i recently found about Wordpress Multi sites existance and functionality.

I found it perfect for managing large networks of blogs and news papers.

But i have some questions:

- Which type of users should be using this functionality? and for what projects?

- If one used Wordpress multi sites, as a web designer to attend the websites of several clients of the same niche (example: lawyers), would there be issues with SEO? considering they would all be on the same server

Do you know of any issue associated with the current version of WP multisiteS?

The big issue would be security. I think it's a really bad idea except in very limited cases.

Even multiple sites with one client the common single point of vulnerability, beyond security, the DB.

I was not aware of this, is it significantly easier to inject a wordpress multi site? or maliciously taking it down?

I understand that the newest versions operate like a regular install, so what makes it more vulnerable?

It's no more vulnerable than a single site installation. If they access the DB all the sites can be affected.

A stand alone installation, requires compromising each site separately.

Bad enough if you have one customer mad at you for porn on their site. All of your customers?

If you keep track of your customers then you'll not have any problems. You can even setup large networks. For example you can have a main website where you offer your clients the chance of having their own website/blog. To be sure they will not create problems you can put a contact form where they can send you all the details needed for you to setup the new blog on the multisite network or you can even use a membership plugin (for free access or paid access to your network)...it's your choice.

In terms of SEO you just need to make sure you don't give your clients too much access. For example they should not have permissions to edit the theme code or any plugin code. Instead you can install a SEO plugin and each client can save his own settings.

The best way to see how it works and what you can do with WP multisite functionality is to install eveything and play around a little bit until you can have your own conclusions.

A few useful plugins (search for them):
    User Role Editor
    Multisite User Management
    Multisite Plugin Manager
    s2Member® Framework

    I hope it helps.
